Well its time I got a new laptop, keys are falling off, crashing every now and then, battery completely dead etc etc.

What I will be it using for.
    • Internet
    • Remote access to work citrix
    • Some spreadsheets word docs nothing heavy
    • Processing large pictures canon RAW 20mb+ and HD video 100mb to 900+mb
    • No gaming
    • Itunes

    My questions are
    • Am I better getting a SSD than a large HDD and using USB 3.0 to an exteranl HD for all storage
    • Do I need i7 or will an i5 processor do.
    • The more RAM the better 8mb in my case with some of the picture files I am handling
    • Any other thing I should be looking out for.
    • Budget I suppose 600-800

Oh yeah wheres the best place to buy laptopsdirect? or some where eles.

    thanks

If you're using Photoshop and Premiere you want sh*tloads of cores and system memory as well as a full HD display, GPU acceleration is a bonus but probably beyond your budget.

Try PC Specialist, the Genesis IV in the following configuration costs £630/€740 (delivered, without operating system)

The chassis has two HDD bays so you can add a solid state disk.

Thanks for that, I am tempted to switch out the HHD for a 250mb SSD as the vast bulk of my data is picture files and video and I know that 500mb is too small even for what I have atm. I have a 2tb external drive where all my data is.

But thinking about it I might need a NAS drive, that way I can connect my AV amp to the NAS so I can view my content and also use it as main storage for the laptop. I not that very technical but that could/should work?

Either way its more money:rolleyes: But I am of the opinion do it right the first time
