Visited these guys last week and they had no interest at all taking a trade-in. I just got the impression they only wanted a customer with hard cash. Anyone else simply wasn't being entertained. No wonder some used car dealers get a bad name. Marks out of 10 = 1 (it was a sunny day).mad.png

what were you looking to trade in?

So? Not all dealers will jump on a trade-in. It might be difficult for them to pass it on later.

I think you mean that they had no interest in giving you what you wanted for your trade in. Which is, of course, their perogative. :)

They didn't even look at the car. Seems crazy as there's always a deal to be done somehow.

Why would you think they are obligated to take a trade-in?

You're absolutely right, there's no obligation whatsoever to take a trade-in. But when you're in sales, you've got to show a bit of interest..even look the punter (me) in the eye would have helped a bit.

Offering trade in Is one of the main reasons Plp buy from dealers not private a dealer only doing cash deals will struggle to survive what where u looking to buy and what do u have ? They obviously thought there was plenty of cash buyers for the particular car they had assume it was small car - 1st time driver type ?

i dont think that is very fair to come on and slate a garage because they didnt have any intrest in your trade in , which you never said what it was, which could also explain there lack of intrest.

also garages dont have anywhere the kind of margains alot of people think they have .some would be lucky to make 500 euro on a deal and that could stretch anywhere up to a 20k car.

and alot of them just want to keep the cars moving in and out , so they dont want expensive trade in,s lying around devalueing, thats my tupence worth before you destroy a buisness.

Infairness a lot of used car dealers are. Very cocky and have no customer service ethos maybe it was there manner which annoyed the op rather than them not taking trade in I don't like over eager sales people but used car dealers I have come across often seem to not care about selling their cars the fact that used car dealers are used to launder money from crime not saying this particular dealer does though !! Could have a lot to do with it !
