    Hi lads
Just looking for your thoughts on a 5 seat commercial?
Something like a discovery but have only seen one such jeep on donedeal.
    Cheers
    Liam

Great if you can get one but there are a few things to wary of.

They can be difficult to tax for the first time, as they are a crewcab in taxation terms. Some counties are straight forward, others can prove difficult, unless all is above board

Make sure that anything you consider buying is registered correctly, ie registered as a crew cab, not just a commercial with seats put back in.

The landcruiser amazon would be my reccomendation. It was availble as a crewcab conversion in Ireland up until mid 2003, they will have a bulk head behind the rear seats. Due to their commercial tax rate they are highly sought after and command premimum prices.

and I'm sure you will be reminded by loads of people that commercials are supposed to be used soely for business and commercial purposes and all that

That's the thing. It is for the business but would need the extra seats the odd time for business purposes too. Might be best to lease one?

well if it is for business use, and you have a number of employees that warrants a crew cab then there are no issues in getting one. Are you trying to stay away from actual crew cab pick ups? as they are much more commen and with so many on the market getting one at a decent price will be easier

Ideally yes. Would prefer just a regular car but a commercial makes more sense. So I thought a 5 seat jeep would be the answer

Well I would highly recommend the landcruiser amazon. They are extremely reliable, exceedingly comfortable and hold their value extremely well. Fuel consumption is not marvellous (about 23mpg) but a Discovery might not be a whole lot better either.

If you are looking to lease, the Land Rover Discovery 4 5 seater is rated N1 commercial since 2010 and should do 30mpg or so.

Otherwise Mr Foxman's option is best if you don't want a crewcab. Can't believe the price in the advert, holds value as well as a Defender if it's right.

Amazon will be cumbersome to drive thirsty and hard to sell as well as expensive for parts would go for a used hi lux with lthr etc

Excuse my ignorance but does n1 mean it is commercial tax etc?

N1 is the taxation class for Vrt and vat purposes and is for commercials under 3.5t. Cars are M1.

Even if you can't get commercial motor tax on an N1, you pay private tax on engine size not emmissions. Vrt is 13.3% and you can claim the vat back if a business which is big saving.
