    Hi Amprodude

I know Thule do quite a range of models, some specific to the car your driving. They're not the cheepest option out there, but quality wise they are top line.

Some of their range is stocked by Halfords, you can also look at the likes of Chain Reaction, Evans Wiggle etc. If your near Dublin Cyclesuperstore also carry a fair selection of Thule stuff.

    The Thule Website is http://www.thule.com/en/IE/Products/Bike-Carriers/Towbar

I was hoping i can get one that i can bring two bikes. What would be a realistic price to pay one of those? Are they secure that no one could steal bike if i was to park car outside a shop or anything? Are the bikes clamped onto the carriers? Can you open boot with one attached?

I don't actually use a towbar carrier, I've a Thule hatchback mounted carrier so I can at least vouch for the brand quality.

If you have a look on the linked Thule website and look at say the Euroway G2 921 as an example (Not a specific recommendation you understand) then yes, it'll house 2 Bike, and locks onto the tow hitch. The longer of the 2 steadying arms has a lock too so the outer mounted bike is locked in place on the carrier. This would make the inner bike secure too. We're not talking Kryptonite Fagedaboudit secure, but locked up at least.

There's also a foot pedal release that allows the whole platform to hinge down giving you access to the back door.

As to price, the model mentioned can be had around the £200 mark, just search around on the web, even amazon. ~ EDIT, Sorry prices seem to have gone up a bit, the model I mentioned now selling at around £260 :(

I bought one of these from CSS last year and drove about 300 miles each way in France with two bikes on the carrier without a problem.

It takes a while to get used to watching them bouncing in the rear view mirror but I guess if the rack did not flex it would crack.

Not really lockable without the extra locking nuts but I shackle-lock the bikes to the bottom of the rack-frame.

    Won't carry an electric bike.

If your electrical connector is 13 pin, make sure you get an adapter - easily available.

Both bikes together tilt with the base of the rack allowing easy access to allow the boot of my saloon car to be opened. The bikes are at a serious angle on full tilt but they are really secure.

Number-plate is a tenner or less.
