Sorry, I've been very bad at posting! A really busy few weeks have included finding a new horse (an absolute saint), taking part in a few TREC events and getting venues confirmed for national competitions. It looks like we are going to have a very busy season ahead, and I can't wait :)

    Hi Treccie

Are any of your events happening around the Galway area?

Which side of Galway are you? There's groups in Tipperary, Mayo and another in Sligo but they are not doing a lot at the moment.
Turas TREC, based in Co. Clare and Limerick are very active and a lot of the midlands trec events could be accessible for you, they base around Athlone.

There's Clonshire on the 21st of April, a good 2-day event in gurteen on the last weekend in May and the National Championships will be held in Westmeath, not far from Mullingar.

Sadly there's a fair bit of driving involved in TREC but i think it's worth it.

    Hi Treccie

Im actually in Salthill, but the stables that I use are in Moycullen, there is a few of us there who would like to go and watch the events for starters, as none of us actually have our own horses.

The Nationals sound like a good one to maybe watch/follow as long as it is on over a weekend.

    Thank you for the information

    Jilly

All the big events are over weekends. A good way to learn is to volunteer (it also means you get fed for the weekend).

Some of the venues have horses for hire and level 1 competitions are suitable for newcomers. The nationals (July 19-21) and gurteen (May 25-26) have horses for hire. I'll probably do that as it would be cheaper for me than transporting my horse all the way from Donegal.

Oh - there's also a beach competition in Donegal on the May bank holiday weekend.

I think one of our committee is based in or near your yard.

Can you pm me the name of that person, I may know them. I will also say about the one in Donegal on the May weekend to my friends in the stables that I use.
