So I left the car in dublin airport longterm for 8 days. I come back and its fine, starts up and drives. Drives fine for the next few days then I'm in a carpark 2 days ago and I get out of the car and lock with clicker. It locks, then this alarm sound starts coming from inside the engine it seemed, there is no alarm fitted to the car and I have never heard this before. So i try to open car again with clicker and it doesnt work. I go get shopping somehwat confused and come back and everythings back to normal.

This happened again tonight and I was lucky to have someone with jumps nearby. I parked the car, didnt lock it, came back and all power was fully drained. Does this sound like a full replacement is needed?

I must note before it was left in dublin airport it had all coils replaced (a recall on that model) in Frank Keane and a full health check.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Might be worth getting the battery tested or if you have a spare healthy battery to put into it.

Just be aware if have the iDrive system in your car you will need any new battery to be registered via software on the car's ECU otherwise the life of the battery will be shorter and the charge cycles will not be correct. If you don't have iDrive then it is just plug and play afaik.

Where would I get it tested and how much can I expect that to cost?

There is a known issue in the E60 and some of the E9x series where the IBS (intellent battery sensor) isn't so intelligent and causes charging problems! I'd call your nearest dealer first just to confirm its not for a recall and maybe get them to check the IBS.

Only E90s that come with iDrive have the Intelligent Battery Sensor afaik.
