I was just hoping i could receive some advice. I was on JSA until a few months ago where i took up a short term job. I got the forms to reapply for JSA and i am unsure on something. Since i last signed my brothers circumstances have changed a small bit. He is earning a small bit more does anybody know if they look much into this when means testing. I am worried he will get cut money. My brother is on x and o's as is my mother so it's not like their is big money in the family.

On the Repeat Claim form for JSA http://www.welfare.ie/en/pdf/up6.pdf which is what you will be doing rather than reapplying from scratch, it does ask for details of income of everyone in the household and you should give your brother's income there but it will not be considered in your means test.

Only your own and that of a spouse/partner are considered, plus, if you are under 25 and living at home, the income of any parent/step-parent.

In the means test for Jobseeker’s Allowance your household income is assessed. If you are married, in a civil partnership or cohabitating, the means of your spouse, civil partner or cohabitant are also taken into account...

If you are 24 years of age or under and you are living with a parent or a step-parent in the family home, some of your parents' income will also be taken into account in the assessment for Jobseeker's Allowance...

Thanks well i am 26 and living at home with my brother and mother. I am wondering would they look much into my brother when i put in his details. The last few weeks he has been earning about €17 more and i am not sure whether to put this in or not. I know these days working an extra hour or two could see you worse off by being cut a day on JSA. So i don;t want to be caught out lying but i also don't want my brother getting cut money he can't afford to lose. So i am not sure whether to put in the extra €17 a week he has got the last few weeks.

AFAIK, if you are over 25, a means test does not apply, you should get €188?

Just to clarifiy a means test applies for jobseekers allowance irrespective of age. Parents income is assessed if you are <25 years of age and living at home.

When you are filling out the household profile just put down who is in the house and put N/A under income for your mother and brother.

Are you certain about this i don't want to turn up with it not filled in and they asking why it's not filled in.

Yes your brothers and mothers income does not impact on your claim.

I have entered in the mothers income and only what my brother is getting on JSA but not yet for working part time. Would i be better off going down tomorrow saying i lost the form and get a new one. It might look dodgy if i have the income half filled in and draw attention to my brother.

Are you saying that your brother's income is greater than the dept is aware of?

Show your brother the form and let him fill it in. If he's making a few euro cash in hand you were none the wiser.
