Usually different gear and final drive ratios. For example a TDI Golf and a GTI Golf use gearboxes that are the same type so visually the same but have different ratios to suit each engine.

thanks for that, the reason i ask is that i am trying to source a 09g type box code hfx its tiptronic and i have come upon one right type wrong code do you think it would work ? would i need it's own tcm. sorry for all the questions but am at a dead end with it ,next call is the scrapper

my engine is 2.0 fsi code blr, i am not sure what the other box is out of i suspect it might be from an audi tt, have you ever had dealings with this type of box? sorry it.s in a seat
