Quick question, I'm collecting my very first JSA payment today, according to the letter I received it will be by cheque and should include my (quite large) back payment. It does not specify where to pick it up though, is it the post office I specified on my claim application?

Cheques are posted to your home address.

Thanks a milion, does it generally take long to get in the post after its issued? also will I be gettting it by cheque every week?

The cheques run normally on a Friday so you should receive one each week on Tuesday, except for bank holiday weeks it'll be Wednesday.

Thank again for your help, the letter was quite vague, it's just odd because most people I know getting JSA are collecting it from the post office every week. Am I write in saying my arrears might take up to 3 weeks to arrive?

    Are you fully unemployed?
If you are you would be paid into the post office. If you are working casually you would get paid by cheque each week.

Arrears should be processed for go with either the first or second payment.

Yes I'm fully unemployed, hence why I'm baffled as to why I'm being paid by cheque

Different scenario than was in my head, sorry.
The first payment, because of the amount of arrears, might be by cheque and after that it will be through the post office. If you are looking to cash a cheque over €600 in the Post Office you will need photo ID and up to date proof of address. Payment days can vary from office to office but JSA is usually paid on a Tuesday.
