just wondering what the general opinion is re time left to train for the wicklow 200. id like to enter this year and i think i may have left it too late to properly train. i regularly do 80 odd k spins but as yet havnt done an awful lot of hill work.

You have 3 months - that's plenty of time if you're already doing 80km spins. Definitely try and build some hill work into them going forward. I did it a few years ago 3 weeks after a knee operation with only turbo work in all but the last of those 3 weeks (admitedly I found it hard going mind)

If you can build up to 150km spins including similar hills to the ones in the WW200 you will be absolutely fine.

You should be fine if you keep up the training. I've done it the last few years having only ever started on decent distances and hills from around now.

This year I have only got up to 65km so far (but have thrown in a few hills), which is a little behind where I would hope to be. I'm planning a few runs along the lines Beasty suggested to build up to a hilly 140km . I hope to do the Kare TDF (100km/ 600m-ish climb) and Mount Leinster (140km? and 1200m or so climb) as part of the build up. I will also do the main WW200 climbs once or twice as part of some shorter runs.

If you are doing 80km today you could finish the WW200 tomorrow. Further training will just ensure its a) more enjoyable and b) quicker!

I've done the WW200 for the last couple of years, and have only been doing 80k spins up until now. Ramp up gradually and you'll have no bother. Orwell Randonee is a great intermediate goal if there's still places left.

I was speaking to a lad last week regarding the Orwell Randanonee, he said it is similar to the WW200 but without the long descents..... They say it is very well run event but limited places.
