Mark all containers or cabinets clearly with the stuff your using, works for me and the inspectors should give any advice if needed.

Yeah forgot that one. Sharps box plastic container with a hole in the top cut on three sides so the used needles have to be pushed in. Next question though will be how are sharps disposed of:eek:

Hmm I don't quite get ya freedom, holes cut on three sides? A sharps box is something that Ill admit I don't have, with needles either the cap gets left on, or I just stick the needle into the syringe the opposite way. Disposal, hmmmmm I'm guessing they probably shouldn't be considered domestic waste and really shouldn't go out with the bins! But if your not allow to burn waste anymore....

I'm only paraphrasing the inspector. I think I got what he was saying but obviously made a balls of explaining what he meant:o. The last bit, I'm sure if I said I had one the next question would have been about disposal. Think of those little yellow and red containers you see in any hospital ward with the hazardous waste symbols on them and then put an estimate on the disposal cost and records needed to dispose of it:eek:

Hmm yes, lets delete this thread and don't give them department lads anymore ideas, farms will be soon worse than hospitals for sh&te like this, while the meat factories get away with lobbing horsemeat in with everything!

I have a small medicine chest and a reserve deep freeze for the back up stock. Keep a good supply of most used meds in locked boxes in jeeps for on the move

We converted the old dairy (as its beside the crush) to a locked room to store the medicines, bought an old fridge for €20 & bought a locked medi cabinet €99 in the local co op which is mounted on the wall at eye level.

For the sharps we use an old clear plastic jar with lid & it has been labeled used needles/sharp objects.

This room works a treat as it still has the old stainless steel sink from the dairying days which is great for washing hands, syringes etc

Don't forget to have your First Aid Kit in a position that's easy to access.

like above the meds are kept in a old fridge which is kept in the old dairy. Sink for washing is next to it.
Have an old standup freezer that i use for storing boxes of tubes, pour on etc. The frezzer is perfect as it has the slideing trays.
Neddles are kept in a clear glass jar in the fridge, old meds or past seel by date are in a seprate box. when i want o get rid of them i give the jar to the vet for disposal.
Fridge and freezer are not locked but are in locked rooms.

In relation to Sharps Box. If ya can get a jar or container with a plastic lid. Cut an X into the lid so that sharps/needles can be put in but can't be removed easily. Will post a pic when home.
