    Hi.

I'm researching converting a diesel car to run on alternative fuels. From reading about the original diesel engine one of the reasons it exists was to run on fuels that were available - any type of combustable fuel oil with a certain viscosity should work.

If I eventually do get it converted to run on alternative fuels what will happen at a customs checkpoint if they were to dip a car running on vegetable oil or another alternative fuel?

old old diesels would run on anything, i think the diesel engine was originally designed to run on peanut oil (i could be wrong)

If you get an 1980's era merc or vw you wont need to do much if any of a conversion, those f'in things will run on anything

I'd suspect you'll be screwed for evading excise on a motor fuel unless you can prove that excise was already paid or you're somehow exempt.
