    I know this is probably a difficult one and people have positive and negative feelings on both sides of the fence. Ball park though what lines from campy match those from Shimano? As in Super Record would be Campagnolo's Dura Ace. So taking Shimano:

    Sora ->
    Tiagra ->
    105 ->
    Ultegra ->
    Dura Ace ->

    Mirage -> 2200 or whatever
    Veloce -> Sora
    Centaur -> Tiagra
    Athena ->105
    Chorus -> Ultegra
    Record -> Dura Ace 7900
    SuperRecord -> Dura Ace 9000
    SuperRecord Ti

    Athena EPS - Ultegra Di2
    Record EPS - DA Di2
    SuperRecord EPS

    At least that's how I would compare them.

    Thanks Astra but I was wondering this:

    Sora -> Mirace/Veloce
    Tiagra -> Centaur
    105 -> Athena
    Ultegra -> Chorus
    Dura Ace -> SuperRecord

    That about right?

    In my opinion i would rate Campy Veloce as the same as Shimano 105 i've ran both and the Campy is on par with very similar crisp gear changing.

    +1 on this, it's lighter than 105 too IIRC.

    I didn't think there was a Record EPS

    You can't compare based on the number of models on offer, that's pointless.

    As above, compare by weight and number of gears:

    Veloce vs 105

    Both 10 speed

    Both around 2450g for a compact groupset, similar crank lengths, etc.

    Veloce is far ahead of Sora I'm afraid.

    Not even sure how Athena can be compared to Ultegra? Different number of gears, Athena up till recently had Ultrashift so you had multiple up AND down shifts, which Ultegra doesn't.

    To be honest, you're mad comparing groupsets between brands. You pick a brand because you like the shifters, you like the operation and it fits with any existing wheels you might own. It's not as simple as comparing laptops or phones...

    Campag don't do entry level groups anymore, so there isn't really anything to compare to Sora or Tiagra.

    I agree with this. It's not like the lowest campag is equivalent with the lowest Shimano and then work up!

    As Dirkvoodoo said there really aren't direct comparisons to be made. I would for example rate chorus higher than ultregra. 11 speed and a significant helping of carbon (levers, chainset and rear mech).

    Below Veloce, you still get the odd xenon groupset knocking about. I've been running 9 speed xenon for the last year and a half and find it fine, probably upgrade to veloce when and if anything breaks.

    Does anyone know where they get the names for the groupsets?

    Campag Centaur is alot better and cheaper than the 105's,
    Nicer looking,lighter and ergonomics much better with campag ie one lever for just one action,hoods are better and more comfortable.

    TBH its all down to what you want/like yourself and what you are willing to pay,

    Goes something like this in terms of price, weight and place on line

    Shimano - Campagnolo - Sram

    Sora - Xenon - XXX
    Tiagra - Mirage - XXX
    105 - Veloce - Apex
    Ultegra - Athena/Centaur - Rival
    Dura Ace - Chorus - Force
    Di2 - Record - Red
    xxx - Super record - xxx

    Xenon is 10 speed and more on par with the 10 speed tiagra 4600. Also has xenon not been replaced by veloce
