Does anybody care about Easter?

    Apart from chocolate eggs etc.
    Who cares about it?

I remember as a child getting "Easter Clothes" and having Sunday dinner with all the family. Then going to the pictures. But I cant remember doing anything special in years on an Easter Sunday.

Somebody I know compared it to Christmas. Really? Or am I just an Easter Grinch?

Whats the opinion, esp from Irish Catholics?

Internet atheists love it because it's yet another occasion to childishly mock other peoples' beliefs.

Living in a small town on Good Friday was a nightmare, everything was shut down and nobody was around. Nuclear holocaust day, as I thought of it.

Was like being in a shìtty version of I Am Legend................no, that's not right..........a shìttier version of I Am Legend.

Working for a company who work to the English bank holidays = 4 day weekend (Good Friday is a full-on bank holiday in England).

    Other than that, meh...

Thursday night, choir; Friday afternoon, choir; Saturday night, choir. Sunday and Monday, wine. Maybe some chocolate but not with wine.

Luckily love choir and wine but not together! Hey that's 2 things that don't go with wine and I'm not giving up the wine.

Did I mention wine? Off it for Lent you see.

Why yes, indeed I do care about Easter, this year. I haven't had any junk food or booze since pancake tuesday. On Easter sunday I'm having my easter egg and on Monday I've got a tub of Ben and Jerrys for the new series of Game of Thrones.

I care about the time off I'm getting plus any Easter Eggs that come my way.

We always have a turkey for Easter. My mam works in a butchers so we get it for free.:p

So it's kinda like a Christmas dinner only with less trimmings. Other than that I'm not bothered. I do like chocolate too.

I like Easter. I can't put my finger on why, but I find it a more spiritual time than Christmas, for instance. Indeed, I don't find any other time of year, including Christmas, spiritual.

I don't know where along the path of life I developed associations between Easter and the colour white, spiritual cleansing and rebirth but I have and they're quite invigorating. I always give up something or take up some new challenge each Lent and I feel more energised and proud of myself by the end of it (I always stick to my Lenten commitments).

Even music which is historically Easter music, like the Messiah, strikes a cord with me. I listen to more Gregorian chant at this time of year and attend more classical music in churches. I suppose that's largely a product of my search for support and solace in sticking to my Lenten resolutions. The acoustics of the music echoing within stone churches combined with the awareness of my Lenten sacrifice and struggle give the Easter period a sense of personal rebirth and renewal for me. New life. Regeneration. Consciousness of life, of vibrancy and my small part in the larger Christian traditions of monasticism, nephalism, abstinence and asceticism. Because of these sacrifices and focusing on non-material things (as much as possible) my life is generally deeper and more spiritual at this time of year.

My sister lives in Cyprus and I went to visit her a few years ago around Easter time. It's a big deal there and they have decorations all over the place. I remember there were two massive golden eggs in the middle of the road near my sister house.

Won't be any golden eggs anywhere in Cyprus this easter.
