Change of Ownership Enquiry

    Hi,

I've been trying to change my (deceased) father's car into my name. Unfortunately there was no logbook, no tax disc, NCT etc.

I have been in touch with the Dept of Transport, Tourism & Sport and need a 'main dealer stamp' to certify the Chassis number is correct. It's a Renault Megane, does anyone know if it needs to be a Renault dealer or can it be anyone? And if anyone has done it, any idea what it costs to get the stamp?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, and thanks for reading.

I suggest you ring the nearest dealer and ask if there is a cost. It might be nothing or cheap.
Do you intend to get car back on the road again?

Yeah I'm looking to get it in my name, taxed and whatnot. Just wasn't sure what was meant by 'main' dealer. The dealership it was purchased in has closed down since as has the local Renault dealership.

I'd call the nearest main dealer of any franchise. Speak to the service department (might need the service manager) and ask if there is a cost involved.

I'd hope the cost wouldn't be too much as it's a couple of minutes work and just a stamp with their dealer stamp.

    Whereabouts are you?

Based in Galway city, will give the nearest dealer a shout. Wasn't sure if I'd need to go to Ballinrobe as I think the dealer there deals with Renault - the whole process has proved to be far more complicated than expected. Thanks for the help!

Speak to Mark in the service department of Flemings (Opel). Always very helpful and accomodating. Even though he's from Yorkshire, I don't hold it against him.

Spoke to Mark (thanks R.O.R.!) - 20 euro to have it stamped in case anyone needs it done in future. Cheers again all.
