Samsung laptop freezes and internet drops out

    Hi guys,
I bought a brand new Samsung Notebook S/N:NP353OEC-AODDX xmas week but have been having problems with it.It just randomly freezes on me and the internet connection keeps dropping out.I use chrome and had been suggested this could be the cause but same thing happens when using IE.When this happens I check the CPU and memory usage but all appears to be fine.Nothing that should cause the system to lag as bad as it does.It happens every 20/30 mins and is driving me insane.Dont know if its windows 8 or just a dodgy laptop or what.Iv rang my ISP and they assure me its nothing on their end,and as there are other devices in the house working fine Id tend to believe them regardless of the signal being pretty poor for what we're paying.Any ideas would be great as its fit for the knackers yard if it keeps this up.Id expect a far greater performance from a 600 quid laptop with 6gb RAM in fairness. Thanks

Restart the notebook and at the Samsung log keep pressing the F8 key until a boot menu appears, select safe mode with networking and hit enter, do you still get the same problems of lagging whilst surfing the internet or in general use? If you have no problems in Safe mode then it must be a software problem when you boot Windows normally, there could be a lot of other causes also but this will rule out hardwaare

Download CCleaner (Direct Link) and install it and run it.

    - Run it by clicking "Run Cleaner" on the bottom right hand side of the program.
    Then
Click on Registry Cleaner on the left hand side and choose "Scan for issues" on the bottom.
When that is finished, click "Fix selected issues" on the bottom right.

"Do you want to save a log file?" ... Click No.

Then Click "Fix all selected issues"

    Then

Click on Tools on the left hand side, then click on "Startup"

Down on the bottom right, click "Save to text file" and save it to your desktop.

    Upload that file here.

Sounds like it could be Flash player, but better off knowing.

    Download Malwarebytes (Direct Download)

And update it when installing, and then run quick scan.
At the end, select all issues, and fix all issues.

I'm going to assume you already had all Windows updates installed??

Win+Q, 'update' > install optional updates. Check for new updates

You can stop them all from starting except these, and if you want you can stop them all, but i would keep the ones in red at startup.

I would also stop/uninstall AVG for now, and check if that makes any difference. Maybe try MSE after.

    Yes HKLM:Run AVG_UI AVG Technologies CZ, s.r.o. "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG2013\avgui.exe" /TRAYONLY
Yes HKLM:Run BtvStack Qualcomm Atheros Commnucations "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bluetooth Suite\BtvStack.exe"

    Yes HKLM:Run ETDCtrl %ProgramFiles%\Elantech\ETDCtrl.exe
Yes HKLM:Run HotKeysCmds Intel Corporation C:\windows\system32\hkcmd.exe
Yes HKLM:Run IgfxTray Intel Corporation C:\windows\system32\igfxtray.exe
    Yes HKLM:Run Intel AppUp(SM) center Intel Corporation "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\IntelAppStore\bin\ismagent.exe" --domain-id F0399437-FD0C-4A48-B101-F0314A6172E4
Yes HKLM:Run Persistence Intel Corporation C:\windows\system32\igfxpers.exe
    Yes HKLM:Run RtHDVCpl Realtek Semiconductor C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA\RAVCpl64.exe -s

As Overheal said, check for updates, and then see if you still have any problems

Yeah well I use the SW Update feature that comes with Samsung.Assume thats doing the job?

I was using a free trial of Norton that came with the laptop when I first bought it,so AVG wasnt always on the system, and problem was happening before Id downloaded it so cant be it??Iv disabled what you recommended above and left the red ones on startup.Ill post back as soon as theres a problem.Doesnt usually take long

I think the samsung update just checks samsung software. Windows update for checking windows software and drivers etc..
    Did you uninstall Norton?

Yeah I used CCleaner to uninstall Norton and run it every few days. And anything Iv downloaded (music/videos) are all kept on an external hard drive so the actual laptop hard drive is pretty much as it was when first bought.I was gonna try figure out how to delete all these apps that come with Windows 8,in fact the entire new start menu if possible as I find it horrendous, and see if that has any effect.I can only imagine all these new apps are slowing it down as it is.But still shouldnt be causing it to lose Internet connection and completely freeze, cursor and all, even if only for a minute or two.
The only Update program I can find is the Samsung one (SW Update) so i figured that was to serve the entire system?Still struggling with the new layout if honest so wouldnt surprise me if i missed it.One would have to wonder why Microsoft bothered changing it,the old saying "If it aint broke, dont fix it" springs to mind :(

Just to make sure it is updated, Press the windows key + x at the same time.

Then go to Control Panel -> Click "System and Security" -> and underneath "Windows Update" (4th list item down), Click "Check for Updates".

On the Left-Hand side of the next page, click "Check for updates" again, as it often finds more.

Then Click "xx Important Updates are available"

    Select all, and install.

No, not screwed... sorry, didn't see post, weekend and all that..

First off, you should be well and truly covered by warranty if you only bought it at Christmas.

Can you say exactly what happens?
    Also, what model is it?

Download all the drivers from here - http://www.samsung.com/ie/support/download/supportDownloadMain.do

and make sure they are the newest ones.Specifically the wireless drivers.

Did you try Malwarebytes? If it is a hardware issue, then wherever you bought it, should fix it for free, as it is covered under warranty.

I have pristine laptops (ultrabooks even) and they will freeze under certain conditions. One thing that windows 8 will absolutely hate you for it seems is a broken wifi connection. I went to a deadspot in our college to do some studying but the laptop wasnt too happy. the wifi was flipping on and off constantly, there were far too many signals bouncing around the area, and it was fcuking with the web-based things I was trying to do (browser, skydrive, etc)

I suggest before you rule things out go find a working wifi connection like a coffee shop and test the laptop there to rule out a connectivity issue

Basically it just lags badly, like every 20 mins sometimes, other times could go an hour. Some times its really bad and cursor wont move or anything which makes me think it could be the machine over the actual connection. Then the bar down the bottom right gets this little warning symbol over it and when you hover over it it says "no internet connection".Other times it completely loses all bars like when you first start your machine and its trying to find the connection for the first time.
Yep I downloaded Malwarebytes after you said and it found something alright, but has since been deleted but still the same.Has been doing it from day1 so I dont think it malware anyway to be honest.Hardly came out of the factory with a virus.Heres the spec copied and pasted directly from Speccy....

    Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit

    Intel Core i5 2410M @ 2.30GHz 49 °C

I dont think its the connection based purely on the fact my mates laptop on the same connection is fine. And funny enough his is a samsung too.All be it years old and running XP.The xbox and playstation dont seem to have any problems either so cant see it being connection ya know.ill try it though just to see. Thanks

Because you said malwarebytes did detect something, i'm clinging on to the hope that it may be software (Which is good :))

Download THIS and run it (May require a restart)

Also download Spybot S&D and run it afterwards.

Personally, i prefer THIS EDITION, But they recommend THIS EDITION.

I would try both, starting with the first, and then after uninstalling it, try the 2nd.

Make sure to update their definitions before you run it. It runs longer than malwarebytes, but it does detect different malware/spyware..

See if that makes a difference.

Doing this now, funny thing is Im home alone all day today,no xbox or playstation on and my mates laptop is off,and it hasnt stalled once this morning...on it hours now...Im starting to think it is in fact the connection. But would the cursor and all freeze if it were a dodgy internet connection??And if it is why is it only my laptop that its happening too?Could it be coz its a newer one and demands a better connection given it has much higher specs?

If you have a few items on Wi-Fi (Phone, Xbox, Laptops, Phones etc..)Then yes, that may cause problems with the wireless connectivity..

But i can't think that would cause it to freeze.

well thats the puzzler alright.Thats why i was convinced it was the laptop itself as the cursor would stop moving.Only the rare occasion mind but still.Hasnt been half as bad today, only gone once or twice, and only after my mate came home and got on his laptop.Must be a ****ty connection. We cant get UPC on the road were on for some reason.Stuck with ****ty 8mg eircom, and when we signed up to it we were told we could only get 5mb of the 8.Iv checked it multiple times and iv never seen it over 4.4mb.Meant to be uncongested too,it is in its bum.As soon as another device comes on it slows down dramatically.Have had speeds of 2.2 at times when xbox and other laptop working.Utter joke of a company.Wouldnt mind only im in an estate in maynooth.Hardly down the arsehole of nowhere

i lost the plot and "restored" my laptop. It wiped all non factory apps and downloads but left my personal files and the last few hours im happy to say its been flying again.Reinstalled chrome/ccleaner and classic shell and all appears to be working fine.Hope im not tempting fate here as only did it a few hours ago but fingers crossed.Dont think im gonna bother with avg,any better alternatives?Anyone i asked for help said to disable it and see what happens so i figure it must be causing problems across the board

If you have them both, then yep, may have been a conflict.
