using 803 gravel around a basic drain

I want to dig a basic enough french drain in front of my entrance and over to the side into a soakpit to avoid recent flooding.
I was hoping to use perforated pipe with clean 40m chip over it.
Can 803 gravel down to dust be used on top of this to smooth off the driveway entrance or will it compact and stop water flowing downwards to the drain??

No. 803 sets like concrete, especially if it's rolled and/or cars drive over it.
