Hi folks, approx 18mths ago I sold my car as I changed job and was given a company van. I was told at the time that if I didn't insure another car within 2 years my no claims bonus no longer be valid.Fast forward to today and I am running out of time to save my NCB. I don't need a car at the moment so I dont see the point in buying a car just to save my NCB....any views\advice on the issue?

Wait for it to run out and sell it on auction it like the used tax discs.

Would it be worth my while insuring a car that is not even in use just to hold onto the NCB?

    Possibly yes.

How much NCB do you have? Could pickup a banger for less than 5-600 and insure it for cheap just to keep your NCB

I say it's possible to get a banger for less than 50 or even nothing. It can be non-runner.
Buy a insurance policy, and suspend it straight away and keep it suspended for the whole year.
That way NCB will keep building, and cost will be negligible (usually insurers charge only about 20% - 30% of premium while policy is suspended).

OP, speak to your employer about this. Ask them if they their insurer will give you a copy of your driving experience with them during your time with them when/if you leave.

Most insurers will recognise this and transform it into an NCD for you. Call around first to verify who.

What you're thinking of doing is as good as pouring money down the sink.

Thanks for your help folks,TBH the whole losing your NCB after 2 years is a joke. I might just insure a old scrap car for a few months just to keep the bonus.
