Just wondering if any of you are on or considering google+? I have been trying it out and I tell you, for photographers it's amazing. The way it handles and displays images. Beautiful quality and very pleasing album formats.

It's circle driven so you as a photographer could set up circles for topics say like HDR, or Clients etc and then when posting you choose which circles to broadcast to.

Also it seems more activity based than true social networking, so it may not be ideal for friends and family but then again, my "friends and family" publish a hell of a lot of crap on my wall :) stuff I never really need to know :)

If anyone wants to find me, I'm here and I'd love to talk photography with you.

I saw some stats recently that show flickr usage in decline. It's owned by Yahoo and for the past couple of years there have been campaigns by flickr users to get Yahoo to act and re-invent it. To date they have failed. I've been reading in various places that g+ is flickr's main problem.

g+ is 1 year old and has 400m users, 25% of which are active. That's 100m active users in 12 months.

I think the "hangouts" (video conference with upto 10 others) feature alone is amazing. I think it's going to be interesting to see how fb responds.

I can't believe Flickr still haven't fixed the Google login problem, it really annoys me having to log in for every visit.

Flickr's problem is that while it's still the #1 site for anyone who's actually in any way serious about their photography, primarily because of it's discussion features, they can't survive if they're ONLY used by people who are serious about their photography. They need the masses of uploaders and casual phone users and holiday snapshooters to survive as well.

Google+ takes a different tack. Not something I'm particularly interested in, that said I have a FB account purely because my parents & elderly relatives are on FB and like seeing pictures of the kids so that particulary style of social engagement is not one that appeals to me.

I wouldn't rate flickr that highly, its grand , but so are many other sites - spend very little time on it now - I find fb, can be good for getting opinions on photographs, I would have a few friends whose opinion I'd value more than anyones - but different courses for different horses - i used to use photoblog , and it was great great for intelligent feedback , but it went a bit downhill. Can't see me using G++ - eneogh , too many sites ;-)

I do like G+ but I have yet to et my head around it fully. The fact though that it is Google is a plus for me. Another big plus is the website authoring function. So in other words you get your pretty picture beside your website in the search results. This is a big plus for me.

Kieran, I have just added you to my circles.
