Your photos are hopelessly out of focus.

    Try the following....

    1. Cut a paper barcode off a carton of cork flakes or similar. You need something with contrast between light and dark, the absence of contrast is why your photos are out of focus, the camera can't find anything to focus on. Either that or the lens is filthy.

    2. Put the barcode flat on the surface beside the coin.

    3. Hold the camera directly over the two items such that it's the same distance from both

    4. Move the camera slightly to one side so that the barcode is in the centre of the viewfinder, press the shutter button to the first pressure point and hold it there, the camera will focus on the barcode

    5. Gently move the camera to the side to take in the coin, then press the shutter button the whole way down. You should now have a perfectly focussed shot of the coin.

I know nothing about old coins but I did see this thread and have someone ask a friend who knows something about these things. He thinks:

It is a Spanish-Mexican 17th century coin called a cob. It is a traditional 'shipwreck treasure' coin, like pieces of eight. You can find info here

The exact denomination depends on the diameter and whether there is a date.

Here's a close match based on the blurry obverse.

The poster should provide the reverse of the coin for full ID.

    Hope this helps.

I think he hadn't seen the reverse image of the coin, just the front-face.
