VW Passat Roof Rails and VW Touran

    Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. A mate has a 2007 VW Passat estate with roof rails and has offered me a loan of roof bars and roof box.

However he lives the other end of the country and have no idea of where to find dimensions or specs to determine if they would fit.

I have searched but have come up blank.

    Thanks

Are the roof bars VW or aftermarket? If they are VW, it might say on the box they came in or the instructions. Failing that, get a tape measure out. Don't forget to measure the diameter of the rail to ensure they bars will lock on.
The roof box will fit any bars, the clamps are adjustable.

Not 100% but suspect they are after market. But the question remains where would one get official dimensions. Tried the brochures etc but no luck.

On a positive note, at least I can borrow the roof box

And if you do end up measuring, measure the front and the back - it's not always the same distance between the bars at both ends, as I found out when fitting bars to an S-Max.

I think you'll find it hard to get the exact dimensions to be honest, I have the parts catalog for VW's (EKTA) and from memory I can't remember ever seeing the dimensions for parts, everything is done on part numbers.

I just checked on http://www.volkswagen-accessories.ie and can see that the part numbers are different, so if your friends bars are VW OEM then they probably won't fit.

    - Touran bars - 1T0 071 151 041
    - Passat - 3C9 071 151 666

The good news is, if they are aftermarket roof rack bars they are usually universal, with sliding locks to account for different cars.

Thanks a million, at least I know now.
