    Hi there,

I'm looking for some advice. My four year old was playing outside the other day and fell off a toy car and hit his mouth quite hard off the tarmac. It now appears that the nerve may be damaged in his front tooth, the tooth is slowly turning grey. It doesn't appear to be loose. I'm just wondering whether there is anything that can be done for it, I know it's a baby tooth so will fall out in the next 2 or 3 years but is it possible that he could have damaged the bud of the adult tooth? Sorry if this is an idiotic question.

Thanks for any and all advice

if the tooth is going grey, then more than likely it's been killed. if it's not displaced then the adult tooth may be ok, but sometimes the bang can cause the baby tooth to hit off the developing tooth which can leave a mark on it. this usually looks like a spec of tipp ex on the front of the adult tooth.

it's important to get the baby tooth looked at though, as it's likely to get infected and would need to be treated. the crown for the adult tooth is usually finished forming between 4 and 5 so given that he has a bit to go yet, i'd get it checked.
