IE / NIR Network Statements

Last week, the derogation on open access finally ran out for IE and NIR and both companies have now published their network statements.

The IE one is available here

The NIR one is available here

Oddly enough, you can immediately request train paths on NIR but IE won't let you near their network until January 2014. Also, IE's statement lists Waterford to Rosslare as closed to traffic when this isn't officially the case.

Would of expected line speeds to be up to date but they are all old speeds from what I can see.

Is the appendices in the report with serial numbers and names of things a stocktake by IE of everybit of rail still in the ground that they own ?

I mean "youghal turntable siding" would be the track leading to the turntable in the station correct ?

So what excuses do IE have left to prevent overseas railway companies & / or even Irish based rail operators demanding access to run goods or even passenger services on the IE network?

I realise most of the viable rolling stock has been or will be cut up for scrap before any prospective enquiries are even made, so that's still a massive problem.

Are there any other viable reasons IE can use without risking legal action to block any interested companies who are interested?

You've got to admire the brass neck of CIE/IE - 'A number of lines are currently not available for traffic, these being:'

And they go on to list a number of lines including Tralee/Fenit - currently being turned into a greenway! Midleton/Youghal - three or four miles of which are actually lifted!

I thought equally intriguing was the list of potential 'sidings' on the network, including two at Tobercurry and one at Leyney (which has hasn't existed for 40 years) on the Burma Road.:D

Interesting to see that the thumb twiddlers are still sitting in pretty little nests despite their complete ineffectiveness.

Had a quick look at it again and it appears line speeds have being updated however there is some that have being changed but are still incorrect.
