Tefal GV9360 Steam Gen - De-scale?

    Hi all,
    I'm looking for any advise on how to descale a Tefal GV9360 steam generator iron.
    The anti-cal system is clean however the steam holes on the sole plate appear to be clogging with a white lime scale looking substance.

    Tefal do not recommend using descaler but it needs cleaning as the white residue is coming off on the clothes. So its a choice of clean myself or dump and as its only about 1-2 years old and was quite expensive, I think I'll have to chance cleaning it if possible.

    The water we used in it was hard water softened (salt rinse system). Only realized after that we shouldn't have used softened water.

    It might be worth putting some descaler into a tray and just sitting the iron in it for a while to remove the scale from just the soleplate.

    I sat the iron in a mixture of 50% lemon juice and 50% water for an hour and then rinsed off.
    It has removed the scale from the steam holes OK, but i think before I do any ironing I'll trial run it on a towel for the next few times as a check to make sure I don't destroy an good shirts.

    I didn't flush the steam generator with any thing as it may affect the system.
