    Hi All,

I'm currently studying a Masters in Networking and Security and will be looking for a job when I graduate in September.

I've seen on another thread that the IT market in the UK can be very lucrative and salaries can be pretty high.

I've been looking at the UK for a job in the security area, does anyone know what kind of jobs I could have a chance of in IT security in the UK?

I have no previous experience working in this area just my masters course.

    Cheers

Anyone have any info on this?

After talking to a few people and reading some posts on here, I am going to start a security blog and post topics on it like projects I have done for college etc.

Good thing to show to employers.

Just curious. What areas of security did you cover in your course?
Packet trace analysis? Penetration testing? Buffer overflows shellcoding, checkpoint firewall etc?

Penetration testing, Malware analysis i.e. reverse engineering, Packet sniffing etc.

They are the overall areas off the top of my head.

It's not quite the UK but Intel in Shannon, Co Clare take grads and do a fair amount of cryptography work (proper R&D too). It would be a foot on the ladder if nothing else.

I'm on a grad scheme in information security in London. Had no background in it beforehand so I work more in the audit/project delivery side of things but learn a lot about infosec as I go. For someone with your background we also have a pen testing team so you could focus solely on that or try to mix the technical and business side of things a bit more.

Pm me if you want to talk about it

    Hi abelard,

Does your organisation have many vacancies/recruit often? I am currently studying for a security and forensics masters and will be looking for work when I finish, there seems to always be a few roles advertised here in Dublin so I'm hopeful, but I will be looking further afield if I don't find something soon after finishing the course. I suppose what I'm asking is what's the prospects like for I.T people with a couple years experience in s.w support and a security masters in London.

Correct, Mandiant has opened here in Ireland, back in November. They are currently hiring for the Security Operations Centre and Product/Engineering staff. A list of the roles available can be found here -> http://www.mandiant.com/company/careers/ireland#home
