Legalization Of Cannabis:

Should cannabis be legalized? I know this has been discussed before, but I would like to revisit the topic and address some of the issued in more detail. If cannabis were legalized:
    Advantages:

It would generate an enormous amount of revenue. We would get revenue from the UK as tourists and from the North too. Some people might say that we would then get undesirable tourists, but heck, with our floodgate borders and airports, we have every Tom, Dick and Harry coming in anyway, not to mention the Bulgarian etc. gangs coming in to steal the iPhones and other smart products.

It would regulate the stuff and push the scummy gangs out.

It would reduce the public sector health bill because less people would be admitted from taking a bad dose.
    Disadvantages debunked:

People will get addicted: Bollocks. People are addicted to alcohol and cigarettes and they do much more damage. We can't be a Nanny state and ban it outright just because some people are susceptible to addiction. We should have a weed pass system that means you have to attend a doctors appointment or see a garda to get a pass if you are over 18 and ordinarily resident in the country (I know this will debunk the weed tourism thing I just said but this might make things run a bit smoother if there are going to be people getting their knickers in a twist).

    Myths Debunked:

Cannabis is addictive: It's not. It's just not. Even if it is, alcohol and tobacco are also addictive and they are perfectly accepted commodities in our country.

I don't think "cannabis tourism" is ever going to come into the equation because Ireland won't do this until some other European countries have done it. Ireland will probably be one of the last. Still I expect it to happen sometime in the next ten to fifteen years but I'm not really bothered because as it stands, we don't have to pay tax on it.

I'm up for banning cannabis related threads... I'd rather an abortion thread because at least I can ignore those without posting

You want my opinion on it?
Anyone who uses the argument "oh but X is illegal and far worse!" has no f**king right arguing anything, ever.

So they can be sensibly debated by educated stoners

Could be taxed, and a few quid would be a good thing at this stage, take away Garda/Judges?Court hours wasted on the prosecution of cannabis related incidents, and the reduction of income for organised crime gangs I do see a few positives, plus the odd joint can be enjoyed responsibly I hear!

How about not clicking the ****ing thread? Or perhaps getting off boards once in a ****ing while so you don't have to look at repeat threads?

Legalize it, but it's not as clear cut a case as the OP presents.

I disagree with the following points in the OP:
"It would reduce the public sector health bill"
I've never heard of a "bad dose" of weed. While it may reduce use of other, more noxious drugs, it doesn't directly or indirectly reduce potential bad doses of other drugs.

    "It's not addictive"
It doesn't create a dependency level or anything, but I can attest to the fact that it causes cravings, even if it's not on a psychological level. It's not a reason to proscribe it, but it's just something that should be considered if we're going to analyse this in a balanced way.

The legalisation that I favour seems a long way away, but I think decriminalisation would be a first step which prevents people from being prosecuted over a largely innocuous plant.

People shouldn't be allowed smoke weed and be on this at same time

Smoking weed on Internet = another legalise cannabis thread
