Does anyone have any tips for a 17 YO to get a summer job. I have given out about 25 cvs and not one response. I am actually distraught and I have been checking my email every hour for the last month to see if I got a response. The majority if them were given to managers a don't want to spend a other summer going out doing the same thing every day or sitting at home bored. I just want to get a job if any kind and ill do it for minimum wage. I would take work experience to prove how hard working I am but they won't even call or email me.
    Any advice any one
    Thanks :)

    Forget watching your email.

Work out who you know who knows a manager in a place where you might get a job. (Read that sentence twice ... it's not just who you know, it's who they know too ... friends-of-a-friend can be helpful.)

Tell them that you are looking for a summer job, and ask them to help you find one. Don't assume that they'll make the leap from the first point to the 2nd: people aren't always as bright as you expect.

    In short, work your networks.

I am a manager of a business with 35 staff and the fact is, that while we have a lot of students that want summer work, we will not take them on for a number of reasons.

First, there is the belief that there is plenty of hours to be covered with Holidays taken by full time staff but the few part time staff we have all want full time work as they are on holidays from college or school. These guys work at the weekend all year so we would look after them as much as possible

Secondly, very few business will hire somebody for a few months when there is training costs. We would want to hire somebody who would plan to work a shift or two during term time

    However, Good Luck!

    I understand what there saying
But it's cheaper for them to employ summer who Is 17 and can work in a shop I have worked in my uncles shop for months here and there when his few staff are bit available.
Would that not give me a advantage as I know what I'm doing.

I do be fuming as I see people not hack g a clue what to do working when I know i could so that job simple .

For example I needed a return done for me last year in home store and more the woman couldn't do I return I wanted to say let me do the return its faster than waiting for someone to come over and do it you thickl.

Keep an eye on the publicjobs website. They used to recruit students for the summer. Also write to your local county/city councils. I know they used to recruit people for the summer ( I did it for three summers).

I am not sure if they still do with budget cuts etc but you have nothing to lose by trying.

in this economy cant imagin you getting a summer job
my cousin who is also 17 , has over a years experience in retail and cant even get part time work
apply for argos and smyths, shops like that big brand shops, dunnes and pennys and all
they normaly take on people for the summer, get them in now if you want to have a even a slight chance of getting the job
although since your 17 im pretty sure theirs rules they cant even give you alot of hours anyway , and you'd get longer breaks then people over 18 so its more of an inconvience for them, it aint your fault, just unfortunate that you happen to be of that age in this ****ty country where it should be realistic that you should be able to get a summer job no problem like back in the day
