recently signed up for paye anytime logged on and claimed back on a credit for being a public sector labourer all went well for the first few years and I was due money as expected but when I went through the process for 2012 it came back that I owed revenue nearly €1000 !!!! I'm a soldier with no other income so I'm not sure how such a large miscalculation could have happened, I didn't make any extra money last year I used figures from my p21 so I'm a lil lost, was there a serious change in paye last year that wasn't applied to my earnings ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a lil confused

    Thanks in advance

what do you mean "you used figures from P21"

did you enter your P60 details for 2012 ?

Confused by what you mean. maybe a little more info because it seem strange that you could owe so much without another source of income, e.g. Social Welfare.

This happens quite a bit around this time of year. If your pay and tax details weren't showing up automatically for 2012 when you processed your 2012 claim then you should have entered your pay and tax details from your 2012 p60.
If you didn't enter the correct figures this may account for the underpayment. Check your 2012 p60 again as it will tell you which figures to use.

Thanks for the replies, and yep it was figures from my p60 that I used not my p21 !! I will check the figures again tomorrow but I'm pretty sure the figures were right,

No other sources of income So I'm finding it strange also

were your tax credits and allowances correct for 2012? It can (and does) happen that a person's credits or allowances were incorrect for the year and if the employee doesn't notice it, then there can be a nasty underpayment at the end of the year. even if the employer has made an error, the responsibility lies with the employee to ensure their tax is correct.

My tax credit for a single man is 3300 which is what it states in my p60 so I don't think thats the problem

    Thanks for the reply though

I think the single person tax credit is 1650e according to revenue website.

    But....

    Personal Credit 1,650
    PAYE Credit 1,650

    Total = 3,300

but but but ...... looks like my error. I read OP to have had personal tax credit of 3300e and then the PAYE of 1650e on top of it.

No sry if I didn't make it clear its 1650 paye and 1650 personal credit= 3300 tax credit

Happened here one year, employee payroll made an error, can't recall exact details now, but we owed.

Slightly off topic but did the 2012 take longer than other years to sort out?
Sorted out three years worth last week via PAYE anytime, within days two years sorted out but not 2012.(refunded quickly)
Just wondering is this normal or should I be bracing myself for bad news?

Op, just ring revenue and see what they say. They are generally very good over the phone.

Thanks for the replies, yeah I will have to deal with revenue direct and see if they can shed a lil light on it, I think I have 30days from submitting my online return to come back to them,

    Thanks again
