Infant checked baggage on Aer lingus?

    hi,

my wife and i, along with our 4 year old and newborn twins are off to france next month to show the new arrivals to her family, we are flying aerlingus.

to spread the cost over a couple of cards, i am booked with one infant, and she is with the child and other infant, so we have two separate reservations.

we travel heavy, taking three bags in total. without thinking, i booked two checked bags for me, forgetting that the max weight per passenger is 20kg, rather than booking one bag for me, and one for her and one for the child.

is it possible to transfer my checked bag to the child (on another ticket), or can an infant on my ticket have a checked bag? i've hunted for both answers on the aerlingus website, but can't find out the exact answer to either, was hoping that someone else has come across this.

    thanks

as far as I know you can only have a weighted bag for a child/baby if you have booked a seat for him/her. In your case, if it's an infant you won't get any extra luggage allowance apart from the buggy.
    Read this:
    http://www.aerlingus.com/travelinformation/knowbeforeyoufly/travellingwithchildren/#d.en.4562

Transferring luggage between passengers is not allowed, especially different booking references I'd imagine, however if you give them a ring maybe they could make an exception. Otherwise you're out of luck and you'll just have to book a bag for your child under their booking number.

lift the phone and ring Aer Lingus
Their number is not a premium number and they answer relatively quickly so the worst that can happen is that they wont allow you to swap the bag

The differing booking numbers may indeed be a problem, but from experience they may swap a passenger from one booking reference to another over the phone if its on the same flight, so then at least 2 full price passengers are on the same booking as the 2 bags. I needed to do this as my daughter was on my name and we needed to swap to my wifes booking (which was made separately) as I couldnt fly with them because of work.
The one drawback is that online checkin is no longer available with bookings that have been tricked with over the phone, but thats not a bad thing as if you checkin at a desk they may put you in one of the front rows and also may soft block seats for the infants so you have more space if the flight isnt fully booked out.

They didnt charge for me changing the daughter across bookings and to be honest little things like that are a reason that my wife refuses to even contenance the thought of going with Ryanair with the kids.

did exactly this! i rang as the lines opened, so got through straight away.

the answer was no, i'll need to add a bag to the other booking. ah well.

    thanks for the replies.
