Hi I remember in the budget I heard that there was a new scheme replacing the existing scws something like it was capped on 20 cows and all you got was €20 a cow. So the most one farm would get was €400. Does anyone know what the story is with this new scheme?? I was in the last scheme but have received no correspondence about the new scheme. I have quite a few calves already registered was I suppose to sign up?? Tried ringing the Department last week but gave up in waiting! I also noticed on the animal events section on agfood.ie there is no 2013 option.Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advance. :)

I was told by a lady in the local DVO office that a new scheme is to begin but she was unsure as to when

I went to register calves I de-horned but no more ' Animal Events' on Agrifood.ie.
So is it all gone for good now?

Hi Pak, I can still see the animal events tab the Dept site, its only for calves born up to 2012 though so no entering de-horning dates for 2013 animals.

isn't the new scheme supposed to be a washed down version so less data to be entered I think

Ya, I see the 2012 tab alright under animal events but no option to enter new data for 2013.
Anybody know what's happening now with the Suckler Scheme ?

Do you have to make a separate application for the 2013 wsuckler welfare scheme as there is nothing on the website for it?

IF you were in previous Suckler Scheme, you should have got WRITTEN word last april about registering for the new scheme, deadline was May

you could either post form back or register online via agfood

    its called Beef Data Programme

you can see it on ICBF

Two surprising quotes in the comic this week, one on the editorial page and another from a columnist.
"Farmers must take some responsibility. There are clear inefficiencies in the sector that need to be addressed, particularly in relation to cow type and market focus. We can legitimately demand a product price that rewards efficient producers. There is little credibility in looking for support and higher prices to prop up inefficient production systems."

    and
"It's a sad state of affairs if we cannot find a reasonably profitable suckler system that works for this country but, if that's the case, maybe suckler farming has had its day and maybe iit is time to look at doing more with beef from the dairy herd as the national herd increases.

Accepting unprofitable farming is typical of the type of thinking that has held back innovation too often in Irish and European farming for the last 30 years and a line needs to be drawn in the sand at some stage. Directly supporting inefficient farming is fundamentally wrong."

I think the censor must have been looking the other way when that copy got into the final print run:D:D.

I was at a social event last night lots of sucklers farmers there and not one of them happy at those comments especially the columnist's contribution.

As an aside got home at two a little full, up at 5 as cows were being scanned just back from a kids rugby match....... Very hurty head, will not need a story tonight

And Robin Talbot telling Damien O'Reilly this morning that he was losing 10c/kg on his suckler to beef operation and that's an efficient operation and I think there's over 200 cows there.
Nothing only optimism this week.....I don't think
