Ireland Reaching Out (Ireland XO) - genealogy training in Birr, Co. Offaly

    Co. Offaly Genealogy, Historical Placenames and Mapping Training
    Offaly Local Development Company and IrelandXO is delighted to launch a new training project which is free of charge to attend. Using a combination of lectures, workshop projects and computer-based training, you will learn how to kickstart your genealogy project!

    All training evenings will have a strong practical focus using internet sources. Training is free of charge (a contribution of volunteer hours to the Ireland Reaching Out project is appreciated)and suitable for those with a connection to or living in Offaly. The course will run in other venues from May.

    REGISTRATION Places are limited. To register, please send/text your full contact details (parish, mobile number and email address) to doshea@irelandxo.com or (085) 1925466. You will then receive an email confirmation.

    Article on this service in the Indo which has the following quote:

    "According to 28-year-old Henry, the service focuses on parish and baptismal records rather than birth certs, many of which, from certain periods, no longer exist."

    I may be a pedant, but this statement is at best misleading and at worst: wrong. It suggests that birth certs have been "lost" in some way, which is of course not true.:(
