    Hi.
In the process of decidng which road bike to go for. I've heard great things about the Cervelo S2 and S5 (good for triathlon).

The Cervelo framesets are for sale on DH Gate from Chinese manufacturuers. The prices seem too good to be true.
Anyone any experience of buying from here? Supposodely all legit.

    Appreciate any feedback.

Have read some reviews online. Seems to be a Chinese ebay.
Great stuff!!! I'd let someone else buy from it and read their experience before I'd consider buying something.

TBH, your post reads as a bit of a contradiction, IF you allow your head to rule over your heart. I'd tread very warily if I were you....

Handy site to have, it's pretty cheap for gear.
I had a read of a few reviews, seem to be good but they do say it is FAKE. So I'm not sure if I'd be spending big bucks on a fake!

What's the point in getting a not-Cervelo for whatever price?

I've an S2 and put some serious miles on it. For comparison I also ride a Planet-X pro carbon. It doesn't come close.

The S2 is super stiff yet soaks up the bumps. It is also fast and responsive. Although make sure you get a decent set of wheels to match or you'll lose a lot of the benefits. I've Cosmics on mine and I can feel the flex of the wheel in the rear as times.

As for ordering from dhgate, be wary. Carbon fibre is a strange material and likes to fail catastrophically when it decides to fail. Huge difference in how layups are done and how that effects the mode of failure.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

You're right Blaaman; I always try and ensure that my head wins over my heart and my little head!

So I'll try to stretch the budget to a genuine bona fide s2 frameset. After all, I dont think I'd like to discover the shortcomings of my Chinese imitation whilst cornering on a descent.

Or the shortcomings in your bank account when the taxman levies import duty based on the name on the frame?

My bank a/c is well used to short comings.

beautiful Cervelo in the window of Humphries Cycles at the moment in Finglas. Usually go to the shop beside it for milk just to have a look. wouldn't buy a fake frame especially as it says its fake. probably no testing done on it. descending down a hill at 60km/hr you want some bit of confidence.

Its an R5 CA, savage bike. Think the frames are on special at the moment around 2500 mark

Keep an eye on www.slipstreamsports.com as the Garmin pro bikes and frames pop up on their online shop.

A bit outa my price league.

Are the s2/s5's difficult to get the hang of or is the transition fairly easy coming from a basic road bike?

Me ar$e. The ca is a ltd edition version of R5. Retails for a bordering on insane 9 grand or something... frameset only

Cervelo tweeted a video about the new RCA the pros are riding

Sorry- I should know the difference as I'm a big Cervelo fan- the frame is the R5 VWD. Here it is on Wiggle. If I was buying in the morning and spending circa 2k this would be top of my list.

Look at this for comparison of most of the R3/R5's available

    Fair play for the info.

Do they take some getting used to?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,714 ✭✭✭Ryaner

There isn't much difference cycling wise between a cervelo and another racing frame. Emphasis on the racing frame part. Switching from a more relaxed geometry can take some getting used to, but you'll experience the same differences going to another similar setup bike.

Deals do come up on the framesets, especially previous years models. Framesets don't change much between the years, sometimes not at all bar the paintwork. If sterling tanks again and it looks like it might, take a trip up to http://www.slanecycles.com/.
I'm open to correction, but I don't think Humphries is a registered Cervelo dealer. If you don't buy from one, then no warranty. Bit of a stupid requirement. Almost as stupid as the no internet sales one they tried to bring in.

Hello all. Just like to say I brought my research to a swift end earlier today. Saw the deal for the S2 frameset on Slane cycles £1450 stg.

However, this could'nt rival the deal offered by Hollingsworth cycles in Goatstown.

Now the chuffed owner of a brand spanking 2013 56cm S2. Comes with full 105 groupset and a basic Shimano wheelset, all for the pretty sum of 2400 europeans. Cant go wrong with that.

Think they have a few left.

Thanks all for the discussion and advice.

Well may you wear! Love Cervelo's! Very jealous. Be sure to post a pic of it in the flesh.

Well done, thats a brilliant bike at a great price- the S2 is basically the same as the original Soloist Carbon - which were 3200 rrp frame and fork only in 2007!

Yeah, I couldn't pass on it, no doubts whatsoever.
I'll stick up a pic in the am,
    Cheers.
