DHL delivery: what if I'm not in?

I'm expecting a package via DHL's 'Express Delivery' service, and it seems it has to be signed for.

Will they accept anyone's signature at our house, or does it have to be mine?

What if no one's in? Do they leave a card saying you have to collect it from somewhere, or do they just keep coming back?

Depends on the courier I think, I've had many packages delivered by DHL where the courier rang and if I was out they were quite happy to leave parcel in the shed. Even though I don't think they're supposed to. Saves everyone a lot of hassle if they do though.

Signature doesn't have to be yours, just someone from the house. Most couriers will ring the number attached to the package if they don't get an answer at the door. Depending on their route they might be happy to call back later or leave at a neighbours etc. Just remember if you tell them to leave it somewhere and it goes missing, they ain't liable!

    Anyone's signature should be fine.

If there's no one home they'll leave a card so you can call them to either arrange another delivery attempt OR collect from their depot.

Thanks people. Should I expect my delivery today? I.e. do DHL deliver on holidays?

    No. Just working days.

Check the tracking, it will say with delivery courier if it's being delivered.

If the package is small enough you can also get them to deliver it to Parcelmotel.

I get all my parcels sent to work as nobody is ever home during the day. I rarely sign for any, only if I happen to be passing, the receptionist usually would.

I know this thread is about DHL, but this is an posts policy after I emailed them last year.
    Dear Sir/Madam,

The registered service would be delivered as addressed and a signature would be required on delivery by a responsible adult at that address not necessarily the named recipient on the letter.

We do not have a service whereby only the named person would be required sign for an item.

    Yours sincerely,
