Muck Heap: Inside or Outside?

We have a pile of old musty straw that was never used lying in a shed. There's also a fair bit of muck in the shed too on the floor (not concrete). What I was thinking of doing was mixing the two together and after a while spreading it. It would make it easier if I could just mix them into one pile inside but will it rot down properly or would it have to be outside?

I would imagine it would take longer to rot down indoors than out.
