    Hey

I recently bought a new HP with Windows 7 preinstalled. It also came with Windows 8 on 3 discs, however on the discs it says 'Windows 8 for HP'. My question is can I use the discs to install Windows 8 on my other pc, its an acer, or does it have to be a hp?

Any info would be very much appreciated

    Sam

    There are two different issues.

    Q. installing an OEM copy of windows on another machine ?

    A. Microsoft have never allowed it, not even on the same machine if you change the motherboard. ( Licensing restrictions are one reason people use Linux etc.)

    Q. sorting out the PC

    A. you bought a generic PC without windows, the killer is that the cost of buying a separate copy of windows afterwards is just extortionate :(

thing is the brand names get OEM windows so cheaply that unless you have a specific need it's usually cheaper to get it preinstalled than trying to save money by building one yourself.

not sure if you could purchase a legit transferrable windows on ebay as there are so many dodgy OEM copies there :(

if you decide to sell the machine on then use www.dban.org to wipe the drive.

buying a legit copy of windows might be the easiest way
you don't need to spend money on microsoft office since www.libreoffice.org is free - same is true for most things, there is usually a similar free version
