I filled the tank with green diesel...

unbeknownst to me! Filled up at a regular pump yesterday at a branded station, & because i always brim it i happened to notice the diesel had a definite green colour. Asked the dude behind the counter to have a look & he agreed it looked green but was adamant there was nothing wrong with the diesel. He rang his boss who apparently was adamant too there was nothing wrong with it. I paid & told them I'd be contacting customs.

So, a few questions & hoping to get opinions. I presume the most sensible thing to do is ring customs first thing Tuesday morning? It's my ass if i get stopped & dipped, although the chances are slim.

Talking to someone they mentioned that it would stain my fuel filter & my diesel could still show up down the line as marked? So i should probably get it changed after going through this tank? I put in 62 liters into a 67 liter tank.

Think back I'm sorry i didn't 1. get a sample, & 2. kick up a holy stink & possibly insist the tank get drained at their expense.

    What ye reckon?

Are you familiar with the appearance of regular diesel versus marked? Regular diesel is green as well just not as dark a colour as the marked version.

No to be honest. Diesel always looks white/maybe slightly yellow to me.

You should siphon a sample from your tank. Green diesel is very much green to the look. Normal diesel however can have a green-ish hue in certain light.

It it was a branded station i.e. Topaz etc, and a normal diesel pump, theres no way it was Green diesel.

By the way, a fuel filter won't matter. Custom dip the tank (before the filter) so even if it was green diesel, you don't need a new filter.

Tried to siphon some alright but the tubing would only go so far. Looks like it might have been regular diesel so. It was more light green. But definitely green.

"Green" diesel is a very noticeable dark green. I've had clear, yellow and day glow green from "white" diesel pumps at various big name stations. If it is not dark green then it's probably not marked diesel and you're ok. I say probably because I'm not in the know as to what the other colours actually mean.

Green diesel is of a similar colour to the picture below

Regular diesel has a slight tinge of green. Pour it into a beaker and you'll notice it's nowhere near the same colour as above. I could take a picture of each but I'm not going back to the garage at this time :p

Coincidently, I saw a 730d this evening filling up at the pump. Quickly firing the pump back isn't going to work, agri diesel 109.9 a litre was going into the tank. Naughty naughty :pac:
