    hi,

my macbook is literally falling apart, 5 years old, had the case fixed once, doubt they will do it again for nothing. So i'm in the new market for a new laptop. I'm hoping to use the new one for a few games. My question is do i save up to get a macbook air, will i be able to play windows games without any issue? or do i just get a cheap windows laptop? I love my macbook and dont mind paying the extra if i can play the games

Which games. I wouldn't buy the MBA for any heavy gaming as the processor isn't the fastest.

I'd also be concerned about onboard storage. You'll have to partition your startup disk which means you'll probably run out of space quite quickly.

With gaming in mind I'd probably be more inclined to recommend a Macbook Pro.

If you want to game then you'd be better off not going with Apple or even a laptop. How much did you want to spend? Also, halo is xbox only.

Also the MacBook air doesn't have an optical drive (CD/DVD) so if you already have a back catalogue of games from your old Mac you won't be playing those on it.

Bear in mind too that a nasty cheap-ass laptop probably won't cope very well with most modern games. It may run them in lower settings but it won't look pretty. If you want to game then either get another MBP or just buy a PC gaming laptop or gaming PC desktop imo.

I don't game on my Mac so I don't know if most PC games are also released on Mac format. It used to be the case that the choice of games for a Mac was very limited.

You can have a look here for Apple games http://store.steampowered.com/ If gaming is what you want to do then a Windows desktop with a dedicated GPU is really the way to go. You'll get way more bang for your buck.

True but if you go down the MBP route and spec it well then you get the best of both worlds as you can Bootcamp Windows. A nicely specced MBP is a lot of wedge however, especially if you're going Retina.

A Macbook pro in any configuration is really not the best choice for gaming. For the price of a Macbook pro you'd be better off with a laptop that' s designed for gaming (http://www.dell.com/ie/p/alienware-laptops) And, even then I would only recommend a high end win laptop if you really really have to have the portability. You could build a beast of a gaming desktop with that kinda of money.

    Also, halo is xbox only.

There are Mac Ports of Halo though not sure about the most current one, I've played them and they work well but do need a decent processor.

The smaller Macbook Pro (13") and Macbook Air use a dual core i5 or i7 while the 15" has the full 4 core versions. I'm not sure if the games use all the cores but it could be a deciding factor. Also the 13" Macs use only Intel HD graphics so may not be up to the challenge, the 15" use both the Intel HD4000 and nVidia GT650 GPUs allowing better performance at the cost of battery life.
