Evening folks - looking for some advice/help.

I installed a freesat system yesterday, with an aerial for the national channels. I have all the national ones (from the aerial) and a lot of channels from the Eurobird sat, but cant seem to pick up the BBC's and ITV's etc...from the satellite.

Any advice on what the problem might be ? thanks in advance.

    Rob

There are no Freesat combi receivers, only generic free-to-air (FTA). What make & model box is it?

Sorry yes you are correct it is a fta xoro 9000 box

Have the same box and everything is working fine.

The sat you need is Astra 2a 2b 2d.

On your remote press OK to bring up the list of channels, then the left or right arrow until that sat listing with all the bbcs appear. If it doesn't appear you need to tune it in.

Is the receiver scanning the full range of frequencies for Eutelsat 28A & Astra 1N/2A/2F at 28.2°E or is there a separate option for Astra 2 at 28.2°E ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭roadster5

hmmm - i dont have those astra sats listed. The eurobird 1 sat is shown at 28.2. Have tried to add the astra sat at 28.2 also - to no avail !!

    Thanks for all your suggestions

The Eutelsat and Astra 2 satellites are co-located so the satellite receiver sees them as one complete range of frequencies no matter what the satellite receiver calls the satellite.

Does the scan start at 10714 MHz and continue all the way to the high 12600 MHz, if not it should?

I can't give you any specific information as I don't know how that receiver works as regards tuning/scanning satellites etc, if all else fails consult the manual.

Thanks again - as far as i can see the transponder is 10714 h 22000

Still wondering if my signal intensity at 36% and signal quality at 10% might b the problem ?

Yes, very likely, readings are very low. Did you install the dish yourself?

Maybe the dish requires realignment, Eurobird is located at 28.5°E and the Astras at 28.2°E I believe. The dish may be a little more eastwards than it should be.

Cheers = will try amd move it slightly 2moro, if the bleedin weather is suitable to climb up on the kitchen extension - yes installed it myself - using a satellite meter - but it doesnnt show which sat its aligning to when your positioning it - will try to move it a few degrees to the west.

Thanks a mil for all your suggestions. Hope i didnt interfer with your paddys day celebrations

The dish is there abouts in the right position, I'd just give it a slight nudge and then check the readings on the receiver. What are the readings for the Eurobird channels?

I actually bought 2 xoro 9000 boxes at the same time. I have managed to increase the Signal Intensity to 90% and the Signal quality to 74%, by reconnecting the F connectors. I also moved the dish very slightly

1 of the boxes shows me the list of UK Channels but does not allow me to view them (it says No Signal against these) - when i disconnect this box and connect the other one, this box does not list any UK Channels !!!! - wtf

THe LNB Freq is the same for both machines (9750-10750)
The transponders is different for both machines - and every time i do a new search for Channels the transponder details change !!!

Dont know if my xoro boxes are acting up - looks like i might have to call in the Professionals !!

Is there a Universal or 9750-10600 LNB frequency setting available in the menu?

Yes the setting for the LNB on both machines is Universal (9750-10750)

If your box allows it, do a Blind Scan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,543 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Yeah sounds like the dish is pointing at a satellite all right but probably not the right one, a blind scan will at least let you find out which sat it is pointing at, post the channels you get here.
Sounds like the one of the boxes was pre-programmed with the UK channels, great if you know your dish is already pointing at the right sat but makes it harder to locate the satellite if it's not.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

I have over 500 Channels but not one of them are any of the UK channels. I manually added the Astra 2a satellite at 28.2E and searched using this -still no UK Channels - it looks like it found all the same satelites as the Eurobird 1 satellite !!!

Strange cause you are defintly not on 28.5 because there are not 500 stations on that sat. See here:

    http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A.html

I would have thought that Astra 28 is already programmed into the memory and you shouldnt have to add it - it might be called Astra 2A on the Sat list though

Can you name some of the stations that you have pulled in.

Perhaps a pic of your sat list menu might help

Astra 1 at 19 deg. east. Wrong satellite position.

You'll have to go 9 degs eastwards for the Astra 2 position.

Ok, without checking exactly which sat that is I can tell you 100% that it is not 28.2 or 28.5 (I think its either Hotbird 13 or Astra 19) - so either:
    a) your dish is not aligned to Astra 28.2 or
    b) you are scanning in the wrong satelite

If you can provide a the list of satelites on your satelite menu we will be able to determine B above

Thanks again for all of your help - on the basis of above I will attempt to realign the Satellite over the next couple of days - when the snow clears off the kitchen extension

Really appreciate it guys - I'll let you know how I get on.

    Thanks

I just looked up your box on TVTrade:

    http://www.tvtrade.ie/combi-receiver.html

and it has these instruvtions and a video to install 28.2

    • Press the menu button on the remote
    • Use arrow buttons to go to installation menu
    • Arrow down to satellite list and press OK
    • Arrow down to Eurobird1 E28.2 and press OK (little heart symbol will appear beside it)
    • Press the exit button
    • Arrow down to single satellite search and press OK
    • Use arrow keys to select
      • FTA only: Yes
      • Scan channel: TV + Radio
      • Network search: No
      • Scan Mode: Preset scan
      • Arrow down to search and press OK
    • Scan will take 5-10 minutes
    • At end of search, just press OK to save scanned channels
So on the basis that you have got the heart symbol beside Eurobird1 E28.2, then the problem is 100% the alignment of your dish - you will have to move it a little bit, just an inch or so.

Also if you type in your address at this website, it will give you the other correct aligments of the dish:

    www.dishpointer.com

I note in the list of instructions above it says do a preset scan; if its possible, a BLIND scan m ight yield better results.

Okay - great news and thanks to your help lads, I moved in this afternoon, a few degrees eastwards and now have all the requisite channels.

I really appreciate all your assistance and hope i can return the favour some day. Interestingly the satellite finder is giving a much weaker signal than it was on the other setting.

    Glad you got it sorted.

Im in Dublin and getting 90% Signal Intensity and 80% Signal Quality - would expect you to get somewhere around the same. Might need a little bit more tweaking and mabye check your connections. But now you have the stations, turn on BBC1 for example, have it so it shows the intensity and quality signals and move the dish, ever so sligtly (or even just move the LNB left and right and forward and backwards) whilst watching the signals

Thanks again - the picture quality is superb - better than my UPC in my other room in my view. i have been having picture qualtiy andhard disk issues with UPC for a while now and this has been an experiment to see if it might be worth moving away from UPC
