    Hi,
My laptop is used for image storage (j pegs), some internet use (like this) and little else. It is however painfully slow.

    Its specs are as follows:
    Dell Latitude E6420
Hard Drive: (125GB free of 425 GB free)
    Processor: i5 2.5 GHz
    RAM: 4GB
64 bit operating system (Windows 7)

Would anyone have suggestions to determine if this is normal speed or what I can do? Lots of programmes I do not know if I use keep asking can they update of change the computer: eg Java, Oracle, Skype

    Help appreciated, Work

Have you tried the usual suggestions, i.e.

Autoruns - see what programs are starting on boot-up and disable unnecessary items.

Ccleaner - all-round cleaner program. Very handy.

    Defragging the HDD.

Running thorough anti-virus and anti-malware scans.

After all of that, make sure that your browser/OS/Java/Flash/other plugins are up-to-date with the latest patches.

    ^^
    What he said.

Also may be worth checking out shutterfly or similar for storing some or all of your Photographs.
Many other secure storage solutions. I prefer Wuala because of it's security.

Download update and run Malwerebytes and delete anything it finds.

id agree with this mainly. usually its spyware i found slowed pcs in the past.
besides that, startup programs as suggested in first post. they would make it unresponsive for a few minutes after turning it on (extremely frustrating if you want to just transfer some photos)

i dont know the best antispyware software. i use eset which is my antivirus but stops literally all spyware also i find. its not free whereas malwarebytes will be.

best of luck! its best sort it out now and know how to do it or all your computers forever will have the same issues after 3-6months usage
