Joining cycling club - wrong time of year?

I've been off the bike for some time now due to knee problems and really want to get back to cycling regularly. At the moment my cycling fitness isn't great :( and I'm really lacking motivation to go cycling alone.

I'm located in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford and the local cycling club seems to have beginner spins on Sundays but I'm worried that the pace on these spins at this time of the year would be pretty high and I'd either drop off or hold back the group.

Are there any members of the Dungarvan club on boards or anyone who has joined a cycling club recently who can advise if I'd be better off building up a bit of distance first before joining?

I went for my first cycle in a while the other day and managed just 32km at an average of 21.8km/h. I wasn't wrecked after this by any means and could have gone further but I don't think I could've gone any quicker though.

I am not a member of Dungarvan but I can tell you with certainty that they are a very good club for beginners. There is a wide variety of abilities from beginners to leisure riders right up to top racing guys. They will look after you as well as, if not better than any other club, no doubt about it.

The best time to join a club is whenever you feel that you want to. Get out there and do it... whats the worst that can happen ?

Thanks Quigs Snr, I really should have gone and joined them for the spin this morning. I'm definitely going to meet up with them next Sunday morning.
