    hi all,
i am getting a fairly serious abdominal operation done mid May, to sort out an ongoing problem I have been having. Also had kidney stone...
I am getting 2 Kidney Stents put in, in approx 2/3 weeks time, for the Surgeon to use as a marker. I have used "Mrs Google" and some of what I have seen hve really put the friteners on me.....
Now I know everybody reacts differently.....bit I cant find much good bits out there.....the pain in the days after insertion is souposed to be brutal. Trying to pee after having half a tool box inserted into u...not nice.
Any body out there with some good advice for me. Pleeeeease....
    Tks in advance.
Again, the removal of the damn things is souposed to be as bad......

    Hi :-)
I found your post as I myself am having some kidney problems. Mostly only effecting me when I wake in the morning after a nights sleep, I get the most excrutiating right kidney pain thats only relieved by passing water and walking around for 3/4 mins. At that stage the pain goes...till the following morning. This is going on for 6/7months. We thought it was my gallblader as scans showed stones in it, so had the gallbladder out in October. But the early morning pain in my kidney is still there. I have an appointment with my surgeon the end of next week, So I'll discuss it with him then. I'll follow this thread too, won't do any harm. I reckon that my issue to a weak valve allowing urine to back up into my kidney causing hydronephrosis...or... a stone that refuses to budge from the kidney, perhaps stuck. I went through the net looking for answers, and I keep seeing 'stent' & 'surgery'. I am dreading it if I need either (as I already had surgery in October, followed by a surgial wound infection). The only assurance I can offer you, is that 'surely' they will put you to slep for the insertion of the stent and removal too. So at least you wont be aware of it. Tender afterwards, yes. i'm feeling your pain, and fear too! Make sure you get penty of drugs off them! When they come round every 4 hours with the goodies...and offer you something...say YES PLEASE!!! :-)

Hi MashedBananas (love d name !!)
It is a general anaesthic for the procedure (thank god..)
My sister spoke to a friend of hers that works in that section of d hospital. I asked her for the truth (i felt if better to be
prepared and not to get caught on the hop...)
She said it is a very harsh recovery as it is very invasive......the first couple of days are hell. After that, not too bad.
Now I know to that I will ask for strong stuff be be written up...and I.l have plenty at home....
    Tks mil for reply....

    Hi again :-)

I was wondering how you were getting on, have you had your procedure done yet?
I had my kidney scan this morning, and there was a hell of a lot of 'flooding' of the kidneys. So much so, that I had to use the loo before she could continue with the scan! You know yourself, you have to drink ALOT of water for the scan to go ahead! I thought I was being smart, & didn't drink near enough of water (as the last time I was left waiting forever to have a scan done, and almost cried with the pain of a full bladder). So this morning I only had 1pint of tap water. It was still enough to flood the kidneys. There must be some narrowing going on there. Let me know how you get on please with your procedure :-) x

    Hi....
    Tks for message...
Yea, I.v tried that before......u.d say that u surely hav enough fluid on board.....but they are prob used to
    patients saying the same things.....
I nearly hate answering the second part of your message.
I got the stents in....and to be honest the first few days were v rough.....am still in pain but my GP is keeping me
well stocked up with strong painkillers. Think the reason why pain is so bad is that I have a huge cyst (16cm) that is
leaning on the bladder/kidneys. That is a problem that most would.nt have.
Going for main op next Thu 23rd May....9 more sleeps.....Stents will cant be removed that day...prob a week or
so after.....So at last I can see the light at the end of the tunnell.....
When u getting results and when will u know that the plan is ...

16cm OMG!!!!!! That's a big one! I assume they will be removing it? You must be very uncomfortable you poor thing, it's a horrible ordeal.
I was told that the stent procedure is pretty rough, and I have a feeling that I myself might be headed down the same road. The woman doing the scan said she would forward the results of the scan to my doctor (who is unaware of it all, as I dealt with just my surgeon as I happened to have an appointment with him a few weeks ago. So the doc ain't gonna be too happy that I didn't tell him, but I know myself that he would have only arranged the same testing as the surgeon anyway!)

I'm dreading it tbh. The pain I had all last night and this morning after her scanning me, was unbearable. It's almost like she made it all a lot worse. I have an appt. with the kidney specialist on the 20th June. So I suppose he'll tell me what he thinks of the scan etc. I'm due back in a few weeks to drink the dye, and must take laxatives too the night before!!!!!! So there is a few more tests before the June appt.

Since last summer I'm in & out of hospital with appointments for this that and the other. I'm royally sick of it all at this stage!
    Chin up you!! :-)

Ah u sound in a bad state........ongoing, bad pain just zaps u......never mind that the organ/kidney is not working properly which zaps u as well.....U wd wish they had a magic wand and would whisk the problem away...
U have to keep as positive as u can....and I know that is not always easy....
I know it is kind of mad..but do u know what I do to try to push time faster...I watch the sell by dates on milk......this is usually 7 or so days ahead.....Yesterday I got milk with the 23rd on it..which is my D Day......So I know it is just around
    the corner....
If u have to go for a rough procedure, ask your GP for some decent pain meds.....some Consultants are brilliant for signing you off with 2 paracetamol......
I could.nt think your GP would mind abt the Surgeon sending u for the scan....look at all the time u saved yourself....
    Mind yourself.......

LOl, your dead right about the 2 paracetamol! I got caught like that last October, the nurse handed them to me & I laughed. After full on surgery you'd expect more like! I must say though that the paracetamol from the bottle, in the drip, is amazing stuff! As it's straight into the system it works tremendously faster. But not every nurse will inform you of that. It's the same strength, but work so much faster. (I must keep that in mind myself, if and when, I go in for more operations!)

You take care of yourself! :-)

Hi Again! How did you get on last month? I hope everything went well?

I had the reversed x-raying on Monday. You know, when they sent in the 'dye' through the canula, an then x-ray every few minutes to watch it passing down through the kidneys~badder etc. I was more worried about the canula then the rest of it. I have the most smallest veins, but thankfully they called the radiologist consultant to put it in (I was so relieved) Wont have results of that for 7-10 days. It should be interesting to see what they find.
I hope you are on the mend? :-)

    Hi,
It must be a relief to have the test over and done with...It is not that you want them to find something wrong you, but you hope they find something straightforward....that is readily treatable to allow you to get back to normal living....

Had the Op on the 23rd of last month. According to the consultant, tricky, bloody but basically
successful. I had a minor setback just after I was discharged...infection (but not of the superbug variety...thankfully). Simple antibiotic. Readmitted last weekend to have stents removed. Once again I had googled the procedure, once again I was nervous. Happy to report....it was a doddle... Had my first normal wee after about 5 hours. It was like a very very minor case of cystitis.
So with a bit of TLC, rest and iron supplements, I am very much on the mend. It is just brilliant not to be in excessive pain constantly. I have found the light at the end of the tunnell...
Best wishes to you for your test results...let me know how you get on...
and most of all...thanks for your replies over the last few weeks... XX
