You mean they have trolleys in abattoirs? Maybe they should lend them to hospitals.

No! Give me non factory processed corn beef with white cabbage. Yes, bacon and cabbage is good too, maybe better. But it's wise not to eat meat more than 3 or 4 times a week.

corned beef and cabbage is lovely, as long as the cabbage is done in the corned beef water. drink the water afterwards then, its very good for you and will leave you with an arse like a jar of bovril

Nah, they drag them in by their legs, shoot them in the holding area and then drag the carcass to the processing line. It's pitiful to watch. Makes the meat moreish. More than I'd eat anyway.

That sounds lovely, except for "creamed cauliflower".. what is that or how is it made? I'm intrigued.

I need to stop reading this forum, I'm now craving a bowl of cabbage that was boiled in salt water while thinking about my own death and why someone would want to eat a choc ice in the coldest March for years!

You need to taste white cabbage! you'll never look back.

I had a cornetto today, while getting pelted with hail stones!

Those hail stones were bucketing down! I wouldn't have fancied getting a few on the ears :(

Ah, I do love white sauce. And parsley sauce.

Mmm, I now wish I had bought some bacon during the weekly shop. Ah well, there's always next week. Mmmmm.

Sure it all tastes like salt anyway.

I think the popularity across the world is due to the migration waves. Americans of Irish heritage are going to be making corned beef and cabbage tomorrow as a way to honor their heritage. Many, far too many, think this is a contemporary connection shared with their distant cousins in Ireland; however, the truth is that this was probably a tradition begun during a period when our ancestors were poor immigrants who couldn't afford more than corned beef and cabbage to survive.

It's soul food, and many will eat their corned beef, cabbage, and soda bread and think they are being 'Irish' for a day.

corned beef and cabbage is lovely, as long as the cabbage is done in the corned beef water. drink the water afterwards then, its very good for you and will leave you with an arse like a jar of bovril

Step 1: Boil the silverside in some water and drain off that water. Too salty for the main cooking process.

Step 2: Refill the water in the silverside pot and add a few bay leaves, some pepper, a shot or two of bourbon and a heaed teaspoon of brown sugar.

Step 3: When the above comes to the boil, turn it right down so it's only barely simmering. Keep it like this for about 6 hours.

Step 4: Peel your spuds for the mash and get them ready to boil with about 30mins to go on the silverside. Use some tap water but about 3 or 4 cups of silverside water to boiil the spuds. Top up the silverside water as needed.

Step 5: Rinse of the cabbage and tear it up with your hands. Put the torn up bits (about the size of the palm of your hand) into the top part of a steamer. Add about 3 cups of silverside water to the bottom of the steamer.

Step 6: While the cabbage is steaming, mash your potatoes with milk, butter, salt, garlic and grated parmesan.

Step 7: Drain the silverside water and let the silverside rest while you get everything ready to serve.

Step 8: Serve everything up, including slices of silverside which should be almost falling apart.

    Step 9: Eat

White sauce is optional but I feel I've already typed too much.
