Apologies if this was discussef elsewhere.
We know about the 300k reported in the papers there was 60k collected in the Blanch area and I met the girl who won 30k in Raheny . My pal won 3k and was unable to collect it even today as none of the shops had cash.

After alderwood won everyone in the pub next door went in to collect and they hadnt got the cash to pay them out, someone I know won 500 this morning and they still hadnt the cash to pay him out then another lad had 1600 on a horse in South Africa sure enough it won and they couldnt pay him :D delighted to see them getting cleaned out,he invested most of the winning on double and trebles that all won and all I can say is I hope they have money in the morning he must of hit them for about 10k.

I got a load of grubby fivers and coin with a payout from Ladbrokes Friday night. and by all account, even though a lot of outsiders won Thursday, the cashier told me a good few people had picked them. So it looks like it was 4 bad days for the bookies and the Friday was just the icing on the cake.

I would think that Wednesday and Thursday were very good days for them.

The girl from the local Paddy Power had to come into our shop to get money to pay people out! She was saying they were hit big time all over the country they had people driving from Dublin to Wexford to collect money on Friday night just to keep the place afloat for the late racing!

14 Irish Winners had to hurt. Plus every promo and offer seem to backfire including HF payback on all losers in that race.

They win every other day of the year wouldnt say one or two days will hit the millions of profits they make.

I agree but the limited evidence points to a
Bloodbath for them interestingly there was no PR comment from them unlike the HF $5m payout. I really think it was their worst day ever in RoI retail.

One of the PP shops in my town got cash off us to pay out then punters (they gave us a cheque in return)

Nice to see, won't last of course, the money will be returning to their coffers quicker then it came out

As mentioned PP won't be overly bothered by Friday's results. I layed 7 horses at Cheltenham on Friday, 4 of them won. One of those days :)

Yeah, I certainly would have been very happy to Lay both Salsify @ 2/1 and Alderwood @ 3/1 last Friday. Thought they were both ridiculously short but both won, although Salsify was rather fortuitous!!

Yeah - some of us had O.D. backed. Still have a sick feeling about it.

Please stop talking about it :(

Backed Kid Cassidy too, nice of Jeremiah McGrath to run 4m in a 2m race, perfect trial for a tilt at the National! :pac:

You could always have backed him at 17/2 without fav which is what I did !!!

Ha Ha, noticed that alright at the time - looking for the better ground, no doubt! It was especially noticeable since McCoy was scraping paint on Alderwood the whole way around.

On the other hand, I always find it a bit of a consolation when my beaten horse (who has been given a sh*t ride) is second to the heavily-punted favourite - at least someone took a few quid off the bookies. Hope you feel the same!

It was of no consolation, in fact sometimes it's worse cos you know most of the punters who only bet at Cheltenham prob backed the fav whereas I had Kid Cassidy in the notebook since the interview Nicky The Needle did at Cheltenham back in November (I think)

    Still, these things happen! :)

Tbh I never really see the point in betting without the fav in a handicap, they're all usually as bad/good as each other and are supposedly weighted to finish in a bunch so I'm not sure what the appeal of the bet is. Pattern races, yes, it can be a great bet alright.

Obviously in this case it would have come off but was Alderwood the only fav to win in a handicap last week at the festival? Unless Ted Veale went off joint fav in the end.
