Well i'm looking to improve a lot this year and was wondering what kind of stuff I could be doing in the gym to get faster and to improve my puck length. Most importantly I want to quicken my swing A LOT so any exercises or help with that would be appreciated! :)

To quicken your swing the best thing is to get a lighter hurley and practise

no need for a gym, get your self down to a ball alley turning left, right and hitting it as fast as you can mark a target as well for accuracy don't stop to strike make sure your always on the move when striking

You can't shoot a cannon out of a canoe

You need strong legs and glutes to hit the ball longer
    squats
    deadlifts
    lunges

plus better rotational strength - look up weighted Russian twists

You need to strengthen your wrists if you're looking for a longer puck and faster swing. The best way to do that is, as has been said, to simply keep striking the ball off a wall, left and right. It'll get your puck better, and also your touch at the same time.

Other than that you can work on just general fitness and strength. Hurling has a lot to do with just practice and natural skill.

  • I would bring in a bit of plyometric training, along with a bit of flexibility work also which well help you. Plenty of information on plyo on the net so have a look around.
