    Hi guys,

Me and my partner are booking a sun holiday end of July '13. We don't have our destination yet, but can ye tell me which accomodation is the best to stay in and why? Apartment or hotel.

    Thanks in advance

Personally, we prefer an apartment. Fortunately we are at a stage in our lives where we can afford to stay in a nice hotel if we like. We holiday in Vilamoura every year. Last year we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and stayed in the Hilton As Cascatas for a few days. We were upgraded to a superior room because it was our anniversary. The room was lovely as was the hotel, and the buffet breakfast. We found the bar a bit over the top for a relaxing break. It was very quiet, table service, and lacked atmosphere. We prefer an apartment any day. You can get up when you like, have your breakfast on your own balcony or eat out. You have more space also. I find apartments more relaxing.

An apartment with air conditioning is the best in my opinion.

i would take self catering apartment over hotel every time!

a good apartment will have good kitchen facilities, fridege for the beers :) air-con, wifi, safe, separate area for eating, comfy sofa for watching a bit of tv etc

hotels, are great for short trips with breakfast included imo

many hotels in places like the canaries, algarve etc offer apartment type rooms so you get the best of both

Aparthotels their called, thing is with a Hotel you generally have less room compared to an apartment and if you are on an all inclusive package you will miss out on the restaurants of the resort etc.

I booked a holiday in January to Majorca for my cousin and her bf and got the apartment, return flights with Ryanair (Including baggage) and transfers for €412 for 9 nights, it was a total bargain for two people @ €206 per person.

As mentioned by others, I would go with an apartment. The only thing that a hotel gives you over apartments is catering, but any holiday destination is going to be filled with cafes, bars and restaurants. Lots of choice. Hotels are fine for a one or two night work trip when you don't have the time or energy to invest in exploring. For a holiday you should have both.
