was walking along a pavement earlier today which has cars that park along side the pavement facing head first on to the pavement

as I was walking my shin caught a number plate of a car half way down, shredded my trousers and I bent their number plate to a 90 degree angle

Owner seen it happen and wasnt fussed with the damage and I wasnt bothered either about my trousers -was just a bit strange

Dont think the driver was really at fault either as his front tyres were just touching the pavement, perhaps I should have been more careful? or the driver not allowing the nose of the car so far forward on the pavement?

I managed to not bang into any of the previous cars or the cars after or done this before in all the times I walk that pavement on a daily basis

They don't make reg plates the way they used to.

While his wheels where at the kerb, the car would have been blocking part of the footpath. This can be a right pain when the footpath is narrow. Technically, the car may have been causing an obstruction.

TBH I can't see how this could be driver's fault.
He was stopped, and you were walking.

Even if he was parked entirely on the footpath blocking it completely, you wouldn't be allowed to struck his car / walk through the roof, etc...

Driver might be responsible for the fine for blocking the foot path, but I can't see how could he be liable for any pedestrian who walked into his car.

I never said he was though, was just wondering. I said it myself perhaps I should have been more careful or maybe it was the drivers fault.

BTW why would I walk on a cars roof?

    The cyclist was to blame.

Tell that to the thousands of people with successful lawsuits for falling/slipping on wet floors, cracked floors/ground, etc etc etc. :p
