Do you have a second remote key you can try. I suspect it's key failure. Central locking systems give very little bother on them.

hi Sumo. no second key, dealer only had the one.I dono if its the key as I tried the open close, open close, insert key in the ignition tricks on the net,and the car didnt do the lock unlock of the doors that it's supposed to do.

Ok. If you sit in car and close the door - press the door lock / unlock button above the electric window switches on the drivers door. Can you hear the central locking operate?

Ok. I'd be almost certain you've got a key problem. I was just concerned your wiring might have been sliced in the doors, it's pretty common too but if your switch is working, it's not that.

Try reprogramming remote, it's worth a try. BTW your method above is not right.
1 - Drivers door open, insert key and remove TWICE (Do not turn)
2 - Close and open door TWICE
3 - Insert key and remove ONCE (Do not turn)
4 - Close and open door TWICE
5 - Insert key in Ignition (DO not turn)
    6 - Close door.
7- Turn igniton on for 1 sec and off again (Do not start engine)
    8 - Remove key
9 - Door locks should cycle lock and unlock (you will hear this) If they do, press both buttons on key for 1 sec, release and then press one button for 1 sec. Door locks should cycle lock and unlock. If they do, happy days, if not, you need a new key.

ok. i'll call to a dealer so at some stage.gona cost me a nice few quid if the keys at fault. cannot believe how expensive a key is after I looked it up online. do you know of an inexpensive way of getting a second key incase of loosing or breaking the original. i'd love the flip key as it keeps all safe in the pocket from getting bent, and saves the auld anatomy too, more importantly.:-)

Remote key is about €160. There is no alternative, that's why they are that price! If you lose that one, it will cost you a lot more.
You can clone a key at certain locksmiths but AFAIK they can't do remote keys.

Yet another way to reprogramming remote (worked for me).
    1. The vehicle should be in the following condition:

    A. The key is NOT inserted in the ignition.

    B. The driver's door is open.

    C. The driver’s door is UNLOCKED.

    2. Insert the key into the ignition switch and then pull it out.

    3. Press the Master Door Lock Switch (this would be the switch IN the car) 5 times from Lock to Unlock.

    4. Close the Driver's door then open it.

    5. Repeat step 3.

    6. Now select the mode by inserting the key into the ignition switch and turning it to the Run or On position. The programming mode is determined by the amount of times you go from key off to the key on position and back before pulling the key out.

    A. 1 time is the Add mode. This is used only on some models and it allows you to add a remote to the already existing remotes. The ECU confirms this by locking and unlocking the door locks automatically after you remove the key.

    B. 2 times is the Erase mode which will erase all previously programmed remotes and allow you to program new ones. The ECU confirms this mode by locking and unlocking the door locks twice after you remove the key

    C. 3 times is the third mode which tells you how many remotes are already programmed to the ECU. It confirms this locking and unlocking the doorlocks the amount of times applicable to the remotes coded. If no remotes are programmed then the ECU locks and unlocks the door locks 5 times. The ECU will hold up to 4 remotes at any one time.

    7. Press the Lock and Unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 sec and then press either button by itself for 1 sec.

    8. The ECU will perform the Lock/Unlock automatically to confirm that the 1st remote is stored by the ECU. Repeat step 7 immediately with another remote and continue until all remotes are registered.

    9. Shut the driver’s door and try all remotes.

thanks joujoujou, tried that already and no joy. was in with Toyota today and they cannot explain it either, and cannot guarantee if they reprogrammed a key that it would work either, but they were pretty sure of how much to charge for such a service. E65 an hour with no guarantees.joke
