Head Gasket??

My car started to over heat last week. Brought the car to local mechanic he said that they ran tests and the head gasket is gone. Went to collect the car as I live 2 mins drive from the garage. The coolant bottle was filled to the max so I drove home no problems. Car was running for no more than 5 mins and I haven't driven it since. I went to the car today and the coolant bottle was empty and there is a damp patch on the drive. My question is. Is the the head gasket gone or is the over heating caused from a leak?? I put more coolant in the engine and I can see it dripping down on part of the car. Any help would be great thanks.

It could/would be lack of coolant circulating causing the car to overheat.
But if the mechanic said it was the HG after doing tests they're probably right.
If I was you I'd address the leaky cooling system first and take things from there.

Well there is more to the story about the garage. When I got the car back after the first visit due to a broken pipe into the thermostat. They said the ran tests and the pressure into the head gasket was fine and to quote the mechanic he said that was the cause of the overheat. And if it did to call back. When it did over heat again I spoke to younger mechanic there and he said that they never checked the HG. The owner said otherwise. I'll get a second opinion.
