Ok so UPC have introduced a truly unlimited service and we can enjoy using online services without worrying about our usage.

Netflix Sky ON Demand Sky Go Xbox games on Demand Xbox Video Ipad smart phones and a good old computer.

I use all of those services without worrying about bandwidth now and I use as much as I want for the purpose of entertainment.

I do not waste bandwidth all data going through my connection is useful for me or other people in the house.

I had no idea what my usage was but now I have found out.

As you can see along with my download each month there is a few gig of upload to Youtube and and so on.

Now I seen this on the site here somebody else posted their usage.

Look at the upload what the Hell?

This is just abusing the service as far as I can see and goes against the spirit of the unlimited pack.

Two Terabyte of upload in one month what possible legitimate reason could there be for a home user have for uploading two terabyte?

No wonder I never get my full upload speed of 10 megabit I must have a few of these users sharing my node.

A well known design consultant I know in Galway goes to his sisters house in Knocknacarra, dumps his files on the NAS there while having coffee and the NAS then uploads them somewhere cloudy all day until its there. No other way to get drawings and designs out where the clients can see them ....he won't get VDSL where he is in Bushypark.

It does say in the terms and conditions that the connection in intended for normal residential use.

For hammering the Upload for the purpose of business there is a business pack.

Is there no way you can change to a better provider?

How would someone go about wasting bandwidth ?

Put your monitor on the windowsill facing out and put on a HD Youtube playlist ?

Normally there are threads giving out about unlimited not being unlimited, but now that we see someone getting what looks to be an unlimited service and the response is to gripe?

I am not having a gripe I am very happy with the service I really am.

I can use my connection and enjoy all of the services listed above with not having to worry about a usage cap.

People can now use as much as they like but uploading Terabytes might make UPC think twice about the unlimited service which would be a real shame.

We have unlimited use now I just think people should use it and not abuse it.

The hard drive on my computer only has 500GB.

Uploading Terabytes looks like file sharing with the seeding left open around the clock.

Edit it reminds me of this.

They are using it, Unlimited is Unlimited.

But surely as you write that you must know that unlimited is not absolute! I.e. it is not possible to have every single possible user use their broadband 24x7 at full capacity.

In your house you have unlimited access to water, you can run all your taps full whack and as long as your pump keeps up you can keep going. But what happens if everyone else does the same?

Op how do you know the other users uploaded data isn't of use to them?

This is a better analogy than you realise.

There is no "monthly usage limit" on domestic water supplies, yet somehow we are not running out of water because of some heavy users using their kitchen tap to fill their swimming pools. This suggests that heavy users are much less of a problem than you think.

that's maybe because if you leave your taps running 24/7 it kind of floods your house? Whereas being the torrent repository for 5000 films has no obvious side effect?

Imho this is a ridiculous thread. Without heavy users the system never gets tested beyond x amount of load. Without pressure on the system it will never evolve/improve.

I would like to thank all the heavy users who have helped make truly unlimited BB available to the average Joe :)

Why would anyone select and pay for an unlimited service?

Oh, yeah, right because they actually want to use one.

    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Yes to use it.

But uploading Terabytes to an seed illegal torrents is just a waste.

Question : What is so important to you about getting your "full" upload of 10meg?

I am not sure what you are talking about OP. An unlimited service was offered, this consumer paid for it, and then used it. How on earth can you be moaning about someone using a service they have paid for. What "spirit" are you talking about? Do you actually think someone should pay for something and then not use it fully?
Do you stand outside shops shouting at people who eat the whole chocolate bar they've just bought?
If your service is not providing the product they sold to you (7mb not 10mb) then take it up with the service provider who lied to you, not other consumers.

Certainly NOT uploading torrents anyway. Am very interested to hear the answer to this. Must be very time-sensitive whatever it is, the poor dote.

Who cares? If upc are ok with it and the user is ok, then so be it, its not like he is stealing bandwidth off anyone,
The service provider is providing a service it is being paid for and used.

Fair dues to upc for providing a service as good as they do which lets ppl upload or download as much as THEY want.. Not letting others decide that for them
Whats next blocking certain sites because one person doesnt agree with it?
    Get off ur high horse.....

As UPC have upped their broadband seeds and data caps over the years, I've had to fork out a small fortune for extra HDDs to hold all those movies, TV series and music that I will never find time to watch/listen to.

    The bástards.

Yea, this was me... firstly, i got 2 connections in the house... so, technically, half that number. second, there was a backup program running on my network which was backing up stuff and had a problem, hence the crazy numbers... finally, if i am paying for my connection fully, and upc have given me unlimited upload/download allowance, why cant i upload/download 2Tb a month? by the way, was not far off the max i could have uploaded... max at 10mb/s would be just under 3.2Tb a month... with 2 modems, thats 6.4Tb... challenge accepted...

yea, it still was not illegal torrents... it wasent even legal torrents... backup program was backing up the files multiple times... have since corrected it, hence the lower uploads in jan-feb and feb-mar.

It was, and still is, a brillent idea... but if you need to backup 1.5Tb of stuff, you need to give access to 3Tb of your space, which requires a certain amount of bandwidth (think it was about 5 or 6mbits/) which is between 1.5 and 1.9TB per month... and from watching the bandwidth usage, it seemed to be pretty constant... plus then your original 1.5Tb needs to be uploaded also...
