Anyway i have 215/40 R17 87W tyres on Audi A1 car from new. Got a flat tyre and tyre was f....... Bridgestone tyres on car only tyre available was a federal. So told him put the federal tyre on it. Was just looking at tyre after i got home and noticed a lip/bulge on it towards the original tyres. I looked at the tyre I am wondering is this normal? The tyre size is 215/40 R17 83V on the federal. So i am wondering is the 83v much different to 87w? Also i noticed on the receipt that it says 91v. I know nothing about tyres other than able to change the wheels.

The issue i have is the loading rate on the new tyre is 83 while manufacturer and original tyre has 87.

According to this, 83 means that it can carry 487kg, whereas the 87 could carry 545kg. I don't know what you're A1 weighs, but unless it weighs the far side of two metric tonnes, you should be okay. I would expect an A1 to come in around the 1200kg mark.
Also i noticed on the receipt that it says 91v.
I would go back to them on this.

I went back and they took the tyre off... Put back on my old one as they dont have a similar tyre. Just said to get my own tyre changed asap as its not the best.

V rated? Will you be doing speeds in excess of 150mph? W rated, will you be doing speeds in excess of 170mph?

83V? Is your car in excess of 483kg per corner? 87, is your car in excess of 545kg per corner?

I think you will be fine ;)

Load index on my car should be 94W. I bought a car with 91V on it. Not that I will go anywhere near max speed (I might if I get to Germany in summer) nor I'll be putting that kind of weight in to the car but it handles like a pig with softer side walls. I'll be changing to manufacturers recomended numbers next week.

What kind of place did you go to? If the tyre isn't fit to be used, they shouldn't have put it back on.

Where are you located? Maybe someone else can suggest somewhere more suited.

My tyre was slightly damaged as it was drove for a short time flat buts not totally f...

I have rang around and the Tyre is hard to get. It has to be ordered in.

When i went back back they admitted they should not have put the other tyre on the car but that the computer showed it as a 91v.They gave back my money with no issue

It is a big nationwide company which i will not name in public.

While its true that the tyres fitted from the factory are likely overspecced for the car(all larger, low profile tyres will have high load/speed ratings) having 1 different load and speed rating, as well as brand, will mean that that tyre will grip and behave differently in the wet and in corners as well as on long motorway trips so would likely have an adverse effect on the handling, something that would be exaggerated by wider, low profile tyres.
